2 weeks ago I applied for a credit card with Pacific Service Credit Union, based in Northern California.
My Experian score at the time was 786 with 2% utilization.
Here's the original email from them after applying:
"Congratulations! Your loan request has been approved. We will contact you to finalize the details and may request additional documents. Not a member, not a problem. We’ll establish your membership when we fund the loan. For more information, please call a member service representative at (888) 858-6878 ext. 5287 or email us at loans@pacificservice.org."
So I call the number to finalize the application. These jerks offered me a credit card of $500!
When I asked why the limit is so low, the representative tells me I have too much credit.
I then tell them if that is the case, why even approve me in the first place.
I also told them different credit lines with multiple banks & credit unions is like having too many girlfriends apparently in your eye & told them to withdrawal my application.
I wasted a hard inquiry to be told I'm a credit adulterer lol.
Well now we all know why you don't have a signature. 🤥🥴😝

One of many reasons I don't deal with Credit Unions. Sorry for the frustration.

There are certain credit unions which will deny credit because you have too much available credit. To my mind, it's a ridiculous reason, but thanks to your post we can add Pacific Service CU to the list. Fortunately, it's only a small number of credit unions that play that
In those instances where I was a member and got turned down with that reason given, I closed out my membership. Because I did not aspire to have less available credit, ever.

I've heard on here as much about Langley. So I'm revising my list and bumping up their cash back card on my planned order of apps.
NFCU Flagship (Daily 2% + Travel) | USAA Rewards (AoOA = 26y)
Aven Rewards (Groceries) | Chase Prime (Amazon) | Citi Custom Cash (Dining) | Elan MCP (Utilities)
EQ(F8) 784 | EX(F8) 801 | TU(F8) 800 | EQ(F9) 823 | EQ(BC8) 815
On the Radar: Langley | Kroger | AmEx | Discover
Speaking of Langley, on my recent app spree I applied with them 1st & was denied.
Been gardening for 21 months.
I've been a member for 4 years & have never been approved for a credit product.
Time to close my account.

that's interesting. what kind of products do you have with them? what about your overall credit situation? When I signed up and made my initial opening deposit, the rep made sure to let me know they want to be your main bank.

Checking & savings only. 798 Equifax score with 2% utilization. 25+ revolving credit lines reporting.
What is the total credit limit on those cards? How many of them have been open for a year or less.
With Langley did you ever provide income formation and indicate you were interested in credit cards or loans?
