PenFed Pathfinder application error at the end

Hi there,

I've been trying to apply for the PenFed Pathfinder card for the last 2 days, but I keep getting an error at the end of the 3-page new customer application that just says something along the lines of "we could not complete your request at this time".

Is this happening to anyone else? If so, how did you get around it?

I'm not currently a PenFed member, and I only want to join if I'm approved for the card. When I call in to perhaps apply over the phone they said they would have to sign me up as a member before they can apply for the card, which I don't want to do.

Bonus question - I've heard they like to see a long average credit history. Does anyone know what is the shortest credit history that has been approved? My average credit history is 3 years... is there a good chance I'll be denied?

You answered your own question: "I'm not a PenFed member"

You have to join the CU before you can app for products..

Last thing I knew, you did not have to be a member to apply for a credit product. But, if approved, then you must join.

I appreciate the quick response, but if you check out their website, it clearly states:
"Not yet a member?

So that doesn't seem to line up with what they're advertising.

Humm I stand corrected my bad..

I was certain I read that someplace.. Oh well..

Perhaps I'm conflating them with somebody else.. It wouldn't be the first time..

My guess is perhaps they prefer you to be a member before approving a credit card. Just my thoughts. I'm a member and they wont approve me for anything so grains of salt

And they approved me for $10,000. straight out..
