My scores have been on the uptrend and for the past 3-4 years I've had very good credit habits with all accounts paid as agreed. I keep my utilization below 30% most of the time, but around the holidays it can spike up to 50% (although I always pay it back down asap). Anyway, because of these habits my FICO scores have really started to go up over the past year since I'm really working to rebuild. I decided to take the plunge and apply for my first ever AMEX (Gold Delta SkyMiles) and was approved with a $1000CL. I was ecstatic!
I also applied for the AMEX EveryDay (love the rewards system for this card), but the application was frozen due to their system flagging it as a duplicate request. I called AMEX and verified that I intentionally applied for this card - and they unlocked the app, but the CSR advised there would be a 3-4 day security hold in place regardless. I'm currently on Day 4 and AMEX still lists my EveryDay application as "In Progress". The suspense is killing me! Anyone else have any experience with this? Are my odds of approval better since I was already approved for another AMEX?
Also, I'll admit I became a little cocky and app'ed for the Sallie Mae card from Barclay. The cash back rewards on groceries, gas, and books (Amazon included in this) are too good to pass up. After applying I wasn't auto-denied, but instead given the "Your application requires further review, etc." When checking the app status through Barclay's website, the status lists "Pended." It's been two days. Once again, the suspense sucks. I've been denied by Barclay before though so, at this point I'm not holding out much hope for this card.
Call barclay's recon listed in the sticky's and see what they have to say and be prepared to recon, although if those are your current scores in your signature, I woulnd't expect much, but it isn't a flat out denial which is good!

Regarding the Amex not really sure what to expect on your ED card, you should of waited a few more months for another revolver to show them some history hence a higher starting line if approved, but what is done is done and wish you the best!
From what I've learned here on these wonderful forums is, anytime you're doing anything with Barclay, call the recon line.
Received 7-10 notification? Call recon.
Got approved and want more? Call recon.
Received an auto-CLI and want more? Call recon.
Have a customer service issue? Call recon. (Okay, this one is a joke)
Barclay is really good for this reason, they speak really good engish when you call, answer very fast, are very understanding, professional, and courteous. I just got my first Barclay this weekend and was approved for $5K, called recon and was bumped up to $8.5K. Talk about starting off on the right foot. Thanks to this forum I knew I could do this. IDK what to tell you about Amex besides good luck!
Thanks for the information! I'll definitely call Barclay's recon line here in a bit to see what's going on. Judging on what others have posted about the Sallie Mae card, I'm not very hopeful on an approval at this point, but at least I wasn't immediately denied.
With the AMEX EveryDay I'll just cross my fingers and wait and see. I would love to have this card, but if I'm denied I won't be too upset. At least I have my foot in the door by getting that Delta SkyMiles card. A year of babied use while staying in the garden should have me ready to try again in the future.
I'll admit I got ahead of myself. I saw the initial approval from AMEX and thought I could start an app spree for prime cards because of it. *sigh*

It's okay, we all are learning from out mistakes and come here to try and make less of them in the future!

Jealous of your Delta Amex I app'ed in January and was declined
OP,
With your scores in your sig I would say your chances of Sallie Mae aren't good. You may be able to recon and get a small limit however.
I got my foot in the door with the Barclays Apple... used it 16 months to build a relationship and then was instantly approved for a $6700 Sallie Mae. Sometimes you gotta take baby steps...

I would like to build that sort of relationship with Barclay. Would I even have a chance at the Apple card?
A lot better chance than you do of getting Sallie Mae.
