Today I decided to try for a CLI on my Penfed PowerCash Card. First I did the prequlify just to give me a gauge. It came back preapproved for a new card at 20K so I took the pull and went thru with it and it came back declined. I contacted them and they told me it was for number of accounts and utilization of accounts. I have never had high utilization on any card and always let some report on a few cards a month and PIF and rotate to different cards. Do they like alot of spend or letting alot report? I have had the card for 4 years last tried and recieved a CLI in 21. Does anyone know if penfed still does recon's and if I would be waisting my time. Current EQ Fico9 is 792. 2/12, 4/24. Only pulls in the last 12 months was for a car loan.
Nevermind, I have decided to close the account and take it as a lesson learned. I have been on a purging spree anyways (thats why I wanted a CLI) . Mods can delete topic if you want. Thank You

Just wanted to reply to commiserate a little. I too put in for a CLI (just after my first anniversary of getting the card) and was declined for the same reasons. FICO 9 806, 5/24, 0/12, and still stuck with a $3500 CL and a regular Visa (not Signature). Am thinking of closing my account as well, total waste of a hard pull.
Thanks for the reply. I don't know what is going on with them anymore. When I called the person on the phone was rude and would not let me talk to a supervisor. I hung up and called back and that one was just as bad and said we don't let customers talk to a supervisors. After that I decided I am not waisting anymore time with that bank I will take my business elsewhere.

I too have had issues with PenFed. So have a lot of other Myficoers. Then there are others that get everything they could ever want from them. They preapproved me, then denied a credit card application for the dumbest reason I've ever seen.
I've looked at their 2022 balance sheets, they are reporting growth. Will be curious to see their 23' sheets when they come out. I'll never figure those folks out.
But I am grateful to have Navy in my wallet. They have been exceptionally good to me.

Now I'm curious - why did they deny you?
I forgot to mention in my last comment that the high utilization they mentioned in my denial was pretty laughable - I was at 5% on 32k limits across all my cards.

I cannot find the AA letter, but if I recall correctly. It was for too many new accounts, I think at the time of application I was at 1.

That's something else. And the denial after pre-approval is just obnoxious.

That's what ticked me off and decided I'd never apply for another credit application with them. Don't preapprove someone then deny them. Here's a link to this happening to other forum members if you haven't seen it.

Thank you for linking that. Looking at the DP - especially the prequalify tool resulting in a hard pull for several people - no thanks. I will give my business to the numerous FI that don't do HP for CLI, much less sketchy stuff like that.
