SO I was bored and decided to apply for PENFED's Gold Card before my 90 days is up since I saw a SP form them on EQ May 31. My CR's are frozen and PENFED sent me an email requesting the PIN or for me to remove the freeze so they can review my report.
Im confused and do not want another HP on EQ, but most confused as to why they want to HP EQ before my 90 day window expires. All responses regarding this issue are appreciated as I have been declined for every other CC app with PENFED.
A lot of time, they will repull a new report.....Just like ksb1 said...anytime you apply for credit, you should expect a HP, even if others don't. Treat everytime like it is a hard pull and then you won't ever be disappointed, and if it's a soft pull, it's a nice surprise!

PenFed doesn't always use the same HP, as usual it's a ymmv situation. Every single time I've applied, I've gotten a HP - even when joining and applying for a refi two weeks later, a CLI within 60 days, yep multiple HP's.
Anytime you apply for credit, you should expect a HP, even if others don't. Sorry OP.
Good info to know. Becoming more like NFCU. Would be great if others chime in (though, I have not had time to check out Penfed app thread in approvals for awhile).
I was under the impression that the 90 day thing was if you applied for a credit card or loan with them, then you would have 90 days to submit another credit card or loan application with them for the same hard pull, in some cases. The soft pull would work for something like a credit limit increase I think. It doesn't work for new apps.
This is based on information I've gathered reading through the forum. I don't have any experience with PenFed personally.
Is it worth is to give them my EQ pin or should I just unfreeze EQ myself?

Same one can be used up to 90 days although that is never guranteed. Up to you if you want another pull to get the CC.. I would suggest you let your current one grow for a year then next year when you go for a CLI or whatever if you still want the card use the same pull then at that time to get the additional card or two or whatever.
The 90 pull isn't guaranteed. I've been with them for 6 months now and I can certainly tell you that even if you're within 90 days, if you apply for something and for some reason the loan officer wants a more update view of your report, they're going to pull a new report or on your case, ask if you can unfreeze. The 90 same pull isn't guaranteed.

I would do whatever you're more comfortable with or whatever would be easier. Might be easy to give them your pin. I know some people just temporarily unfreeze their reports for a day or something when they're putting in applications.
