Plan for CSR - PLEASE RATE

Hi everyone! I’ve been a casual observer for the longest time since I thought you needed to subscribe in order to get a forum account. Since that isn’t the case, I’m really excited to get to know others, contribute my experiences, and ask the specific questions that matter to me!

Here’s my idea:

Since I got to 5/24 at the end of last year, I’m aiming to get the CSR AND another SUB. Since Chase only allows for one Sapphire product, I figured I would downgrade my CSP into another CF and then apply for the CSR. I need help reasoning the logistics. Since I applied on NYE 2017, can I execute the plan on NYE 2019 or should I wait till NYD 2020? Since I have to wait 24 months for another Sapphire-related SUB, I’m thinking I should wait until 1/1/2020 or even till the end of January. I’m really looking for someone to tell me “no” so I can get out of this garden sooner.

The only temptation would be a 100k offer on the Amex Platinum, but if I don’t see it I won’t cry that much.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE INPUT!

This may seem cheesy, but here goes:

Happy Ficoing!

Re: Plan for CSR - PLEASE RATE

First off, welcome to your official participation in the forums. I am not too knowledgeable about Chase’s policies re: 5/24 but it was my understanding that if you already received a SUB with the CSP you won’t get a second SUB with the CSR even if you PC the CSP into another product. If I’m wrong, someone please correct me.

While you haven’t asked for this kind of advice, I suggest you think hard before committing financially (and in a credit score sense) before adding a CSR. If you only (or primarily) seeking it for the SUB and not the other features then you likely will lose interest in the card in one year and not renew. If that’s the case, what’s your exit strategy?

I just received a CSR a few weeks ago and am really enjoying it- I’ve already used several features and think of the SUB as the cherry on top- not the sundae itself. In my case, my scores are in large part a function of not switching cards, staying loyal to my CC issuers, and letting my credit age to where my AAoA is 15+ years. BTW- if your forum name is designed to reflect that you are currently a student then be sure the CSR is really appropriate at this stage of your credit life. Off my soapbox.

Starting Score (October 7, 2010): EQ: 698 TU: 709
Interim Score: EQ (October 21, 2010): 714 TU (November 2, 2010): 732
More Recent Interim Score: (March 14, 2018- all FICO8): TU: 831: EQ: 824: EX: 827
Goal Score: 850 all

Re: Plan for CSR - PLEASE RATE

@finfree: Thanks for getting back to me! I appreciate the input. I'm going to respond a little out of order but I'll be as coherent as I can.

I'm several yesrs removed from undergrad, I'm just not creative enough to come up with a catchy username and also not use part of my real name.

As a CC user I'm all about finding products that have features I’m going to use, but I also want to make sure I get the best bonus available. To me, part of the fun is the game of getting the bonus in addition to the offers and experiences cards offer.

As for the 1 Sapphire product rule is concerned the lost recent language precludes me from having two or more cards in that family at once. That's where the idea to downgrade the CSP comes from. In terms of SUBs, the current language indicates that SUBs can occur ince every 24 months. So my time “in the garden” is multi-faceted. 1.) Get under 5/24 2.) Become elgiible for the Sapphire-related SUB 3.) Complete a Chase trifecta (since there are several variations)

This is the kind of feedback I'm seeking, so thank you again for your comment!

I would dbl check your reports for the actual day they claim it was opened...(reported). You may have been approved on one day, but sometimes the "open date" isnt till a day or few later.  Good luck in your decision, and welcome to the forums! Smiley Wink

Re: Plan for CSR - PLEASE RATE

Thanks! I thought about that too. My CSP and CF which I did apply for on 12/31/17 show as being opened on that day and my CF notes me being a cardholder since 17, literally the only possible day at that point of the year.

Re: Plan for CSR - PLEASE RATE

I am no expert, so someone correct me if I am wrong, but if I am reading the disclaimer correctly I do not think you go by your account opening date.  I believe that it goes by the date you actually received the bonus, so I would check your statements to see the statement closing date on which you actually were credited the SUB and apply after that date.

I know that keeps you in the garden a little longer than you wanted, but I would hate for you to apply 1-2 months too soon and get the CSR and not receive the bonus.

I am with you though. I received my CSP approval January 2016, but I did not receive the SUB until my March statement, so to be on the safe side I'm waiting until mid-April.  I could go for it mid-March, but I will be at 4/24 until 4-11 so I am waiting until I get down to 3/24 for extra measure.
