Possible CapOne data point?

The fact that CapOne restricts CLIs to once every 6 months is pretty well-known here. I thought I also saw that applications for their cards were following the same timeframe.

Just for “S&G”s I went to their prequal page to see if that was the case. I filled in my info and several offers came up. Is this common, and if I apped i would be declined due to having a card in the last six months? Or do they not restrict the app timeframe? Just curious I guess, I’m not intending to app for another card but was bored and playing around.

Re: Possible CapOne data point?

If I recall correctly, you can apply for a new Capital One card every six months. If you go to the prequal page before the six-month period elapses, you'll only get back results for their base Platinum card, so you have to let at least that period of time elapse for prequal offers for better cards to show up.

Re: Possible CapOne data point?

I was approved for the platinum secured card last April and yesterday I got approved for the QS1, I'm not sure if it's because one if them was secured.

Ok makes sense. That is the one that said the prequal was there and some of their others were suggested but not listed as prequal. Thank you - wasn’t sure if it meant something regarding a policy change or something else.

Jsead, there is a link on these forums that you can likely find via the search to see if you can upgrade your current card to another one. Being that yours is secured, it probably isn’t available for upgrade at least until it graduates. You could call CapOne, tell them about the offer you got, and ask if it’s possible to change to it or apply for it though. Worst that happens is they say no.

Re: Possible CapOne data point?

I already got approved for the QS1 just waiting on the card to arrive only $400 though but I'll take it, I will have to find that upgrade link eventually I want to upgrade the secured card to Venture if it's possible, that's the only card I really want from Capital one and could benefit from since I travel a lot, I doubt it will be anytime soon though from what I've seen Venture requires excellent credit, I'll just keep on rebuilding till I get there. 👆

Re: Possible CapOne data point?

Cap1 requires 6 months between apps. They're actually getting more strict, not loose. Previously, co-branded cards didn't count towards that limit, but within the last few months, they have been included. As for PCing the secured to a Venture, don't bother. The card is severely bucketed because it was secured. You're better off applying for a new platinum, pc to quicksilver, pc to either savor or venture. I mean, you could definitely do it, but it will take way longer. In regards to the pre qual page, you can get prequalified, but if you apply, you'll be denied and receive a letter that you have a pending or recent application.

Re: Possible CapOne data point?

Does that include their store cobranded cards? I was considering opening a Kohl’s card because of the stackable discounts they offer. Did some reading and found that CapOne backs the Kohl’s card. Would the 6 month window still apply or is that only for their CapOne non-branded majors?

Re: Possible CapOne data point?

Last fall I was approved for a Kohl's card and then a QS1 less than one month later. 11/2017 and 12/2017

Re: Possible CapOne data point?

Lol I went for it this afternoon (had my CapOne since late February, about 3 weeks shy of 6 months) and got the Kohl’s card too. Guess the cobranded cards aren’t included in the 1/6 months after all. Thank you for adding your experience 👍
