The 5/24 rule applies to all acounts that have been opened in the last 2 years, regardless of whether or not the account is still open.
Closing an account will not help 5/24.
Thank you for your opinions. I guess I was just lucky with 5/24 in Feb. And if it works again, I'll just be lucky again. ![]()
If anyone has any comments about which card to consolidate I'd appreciate the positive feedback.
The AF was waived the first year on the Venture and is definitely a reason for wanting to close it. I prefer to use the CSP for my travel benefits and the possibility of joining that with the Freedom and/or FU in the near or distant future would make Chase Ultimate Rewards my number one for travel benefits. My overall goals are to have strong limits, little to no fees, and great rewards (especially for domestic travel).

A Capital One consolidation can have some benefits depending on your goals. Some folks like the flexibility of having a larger CL depending on the average usage.d
Keeping in mind the Venture AF, are you using the latter primarily for some travel rewards that can offset the AF on a long-term basis versus the CSP? There's been some success in having the AF waived after the first couple years or so, but YEMV.

The only workaround is when you get offers from Chase.
You can see/find them in your account when you log on.
Data points have started to crop up over the last several weeks that the loophole of online offers bypassing 5/24 has been closed but in-branch still works. YMMV.
Just an update, a banker contacted me because I had approval for both Freedoms. I app'd in branch and was approved for 7.5K which is 2.5K more than my Sapphire Pref which I got in February.
