Pre Approved for CSP questions

  1. Hello all. Been a while off the forums here but that's a good thing I guess since. I have never had a travel card and currently my entire stable is cash back or my Chase FU I just redeem for statement credit. I am considering adding a travel card and like the idea of using my Freedom Unlimited in combo with a CSP. I see on Chase's website I am pre approved for a CSP at the lowest interest rate for 10k. I'll have no problem meeting the spend for the bonus. I am not pleased with the limit though and would like to know if i accept the offer what the process and reality that I can get a CLI at activation...and yes if it is another HP or not. Also just looking for a refresher on the ins and outs of combining Chase cards as well as if that's the only option to increase the CSP I will consider it. My total utilization is at about 2% according to Credit Check Total. My FU is my lowest limit card at 10k and I've never even tried to ask for a CLI as we know how Chase is stingy. I have a BCP at 32k limit, and BOA Cash Rewards at 30k limit, Penfed Powercash at 39k, and a PLOC at 25k. FICOs are at 800 or higher. I'm at a point especially with an upcoming trip that a travel card may help and the bonus can go a long way in getting me to my destination. Will Chase CLI a new CSP at activation? Would a trip to a branch possibly have a better pre approval lined up? Any guidance would be great. Thanks!

Re: Pre Approved for CSP questions

Personally, if this card interests you and fits your lifestyle and spend, I would accept it.  Keep in mind, the assigned SL is based on a variety of factors and just because you have other cards >$10K doesn't translate into Chase approving or matching anything higher.  It's all profile dependent.

If you accept the terms with the SL as provided, yes you would incur another HP for a CLI at activation.   That said, you can always reallocate CLs between Chase cards without any HPs.   You can explore the option of going to the branch, but it's highly doubtful much would change, about the only possible change you might see is the pricing (i.e. APR), but YEMV.

Re: Pre Approved for CSP questions

From what I have read, a CLI right after will incur another HP.

Have you considered the CSR?

Re: Pre Approved for CSP questions

I have considered the CSR but the last time I checked the CSP had a better bonus. I’d also have a bit of a stretch it utilizing the CSR fully to offset the fee. I’ll have to dive in a little deeper and see what is best. I’m totally unfamiliar with travel cards in general and have never transferred points to an airline so I do even know what the process is like. My current Freedom Unlimited is by far my lowest card and I’ve never bothered to try and CLI it. Stories of HPs with no increase kept me at bay. Since I have checking and savings with Chase I never wanted to push anything with them. My FU started as a Washington Mutual card many years ago and through a variety of product changes through the years became a FU. I believe it’s stuck at its current limit/bucket as the account was started back in 2004 when my credit and income was lower.
