Pre-approval with out hard pull

so i applied for BCE amex and when it didnt give me an instant approval, i called to have them cancel the application and the lady said ok. but i noticed on my credit report that they pulled my credit. so are you saying that since they pulled my credit that it was an approval?

Huh. I just tried out the Discover pre-qualification site and I got an offer with the solid single-figure APR (23.74%), exactly the same as I was offered when I took the plunge and got my card in March. Very weird. Being that I'm gardening, I think I'll pass, but I'll take another look in a few months and see if it's still good. (For the record, Discover is still sending me mailer offers every couple of weeks.)

so if they pull your credit it will be an approval? is this an instant decision?

I got a very convincing pre-approval offer from Discover. Got excited, applied and was denied!
