I just applied and received the AMEX Gold in October of this year and is my first non-cobranded AMEX card. I've been using it for groceries and dining and put ~250-350 a month on the card. I was checking today and every card that I go to "apply" for give me a "Congratulations you are Pre-Approved!"
How legit are these? It's on every single card that AMEX publicly offers. I don't need any new cards but since I'm under SCRA and don't pay annual fees, I might just think about it. Thanks!

The rule of thumb is the Pre-Approved message with Amex cards means that more likely than not, you will be approved for the card. The only reason I say more likely than not is because I had the experience of being pre-approved for a Blue Card Preferred only to be declined after submitting my info before I got the Green card (now Platinum) in October of 2017. However, that may have been due to my burning them back in 2006.
Definitely look at which card will work best for you before you apply since there are pros and cons to all of them.

Are you referring to being "Pre-Quailfied" or "Pre-Approved"? They are different.

It was definitely Pre-Approved.
Most of the denials that happen with pre-approved offers come from something changing on CR
Pre approvals are based on the soft pull, so if they pre approve you on 09/01 but you dont apply till 11/01 and your utilization is way up, you may get denied.
If there were no significant changes on CR (for worse) in the last couple of months, I'd go for it.

Could you tell us more? IME, the only way to get an online pre-approval is to be logged into an existing AmEx account and click "apply now" for a different card product. Given that you did not have another AmEx account at the time, I'm confused how you'd get a pre-approval unless it was mailed to you.
While it's been many years since I've seen a mailed pre-approval, I recall that the old ones used to have fine print giving them an out if you had "previous negative experience with American Express" (similar to the AU language).
i think OP is saying they have an existing Gold card and that they are logged in when seeing the 'congrats you are pre approved' message after clicking 'apply'
