Preferred number on inquiries to be below....

I currently have 2 HPs on EQ, none on TU and unknown on EX.  EX is my highest score at 750, prob higher now, haven't checked in 5 months.  If i go on a small app spree, 3 cards (Chase, AmEx, BOA), what is the preferred number of HPs to stay below.  I've read people on here have like 30 HPs, how they got any credit is amazing.  I believe that the 2 showing were on my EQ were for my Discover and Duck card.  They both just had their one year mark a week ago in mid February.  So, at the moment, I have no HPs in a calendar year.  That being said, is there a magic number to keep below on EACH report.  Obviously, the less the better.  And did I read correctly, that even though they're on there for 2 years, the only really 'count' the first year???  Thanks.

In reality 0 is best but they don't hurt super bad. Yes after 1 year they quit affecting score. 2 years they fall off. According the bureau websites they recommend if you wanted to apply 1 card every 6 mos. Because of the inquiry. So 2 inquiries a year is what the bureau's recommend.

To clarify, you do have HP in the calendar year of 2014. You don't have HP in the last 12 months. Smiley Tongue

If you are going to app spree, you are going to pick up some number of HP, depending on the CCC. But if you plan to garden another year after that, it really doesn't matter what that count is, the effect will have faded after another 12 months.

Re: Preferred number on inquiries to be below....

MyFico doesn't acknowledge INQs after a one full year. so I assume most lenders wouldn't either.
