Prequal, or just marketing ... ?

Received a letter from BoA today.

"You are invited to apply ... Cash Rewards Visa ... ."

Doesn't sound like any sort of prequal to me.  The enclosed Disclosure Summary does have a fixed rate, tho' (21.24% after the 15-month 0% offer expires).

Thoughts?

Re: Prequal, or just marketing ... ?

Could be an actual pre-qualified offer, given that the card's public offer is a range of APR. Does the letter have an opt-out prescreen notice?

Ahhh.  No.  No opt-out notice.  So presumably not a prequal offer.

Have you checked online? I received these earlier today through email.

I've never tested the waters with the pre qualified offers. My two BofA cards were cold apps.

Those are ITAs, not prequals.

Also, those rates they're quoting you are 2% higher than their current best for each of those cards.  Man Sad

Yes I'm aware of the rates. I would never use cards like these to carry balances. Even the 2% lower is too high for me. lol
I already have a couple of CCs around 10%. Still wouldn't dream of carrying a balance. If it's not 0%..it's not a option.

Totally agree. I would never carry a balance. But can anything good come out of carrying one? Not counting 0% APRs.

Not as far as I've experienced. I do believe in allowing the majority of my usage to report.

Call me old fashioned, building credit involves more than just raising scores IMO. I want to build a solid track record, while raising my scores.
