Employers/HR at most companies would most not likely comply with this request to provide proof of income.  Sure paystubs will have to suffice or w-2's and what not.

In the past 2 years of many CC apps and auto loan, I have never once been asked to verify income.

I think the only thing [big] Employers/HR will verify over the phone now is employment dates (and -maybe- rehirable status). I don't think they can give out income information like that.
