Was wondering: When you were declined by PenFed for a CC, did they ever eventually send you an offer (mailer?) to apply for one of their CCs? (pre-approved?)
If not - have you ever tried app'ing again for a CC from PenFed in the future after your first denial and get approved?
Just curious how long a road this is going to be before I see some love from this CU ![]()

From reading here on the forums it seems to be hit or miss. I've been a member for over 2 years and was approved for the cash rewards card when first applied but nothing since. If you get an offer it's usually n the website under current offers

For me after closing my Promise card that would not grow, ive been shutout like 10 times in a row. Yeah im thick headed. I did actually get 1 mailer but of course i was denied like a month before. Penfed seems more inclined to offer nonmembers credit nowadays then some of its own members
My experience has made me semi salty lol but i can now just move on and anytime i get PF emails i lol and delete. When you have enough credit cards, having one of theirs loses it appeal. Would i like one , sure, i like to have one from every lender I have but i wont ever app one again.
I think youll find it a YMMV experience in eventually getting a cc. My best advice is if you have good income and want a PF card, try taking a break from apps and hit them back up when you have no credit seeking, at least for a year. Could be wrong but thats my take
good luck![]()
I joined PenFed in March '19 and was denied for the Pathfinder card. Also denied on recon.
I have never received a mailer or email for one of their cards, nor have I received any offers in my account.
I have not applied again, but have been thinking of going for the Power Cash Rewards since I don't have a 2% card yet. But may not apply since I don't take rejection well 😂

@Anonymous you should look into the PPMC its a really good card, not as hard to obtain , and no hoops to jump through![]()

You sound like me @Anonymous . I have a feeling I'll never get an offer from them nor will I ever cold app for one of their cards since my relationship started off on the wrong foot. And I too don't take rejection well ![]()

I really do not see any huge benefit to Penfed, at least with what they currently offer, for you OP. You already get 3% on anything with the AOD card, so the Penfed Power Cash would be useless. The Platinum Rewards is okay if you have a long commute/high gas spend as it is 5x, but when you actually redeem the points I don't think it's 1 cent, so it's not a 5% return. Your BCP already gives you 3% on gas. An extra ~1.5% on gas may not be worth the new account.
Of course, offerings change, and if/when the Pathfinder returns that could be a more enticing offer. But until then, I don't see much rush for Penfed unless you did not already have better cards, which you do.

I agree with you 100%. Yeah I bit the bullet and joined them and apped for one of their cards as soon as a joined thinking I was a shoe in to get it, and I got denied. I have 2 savings account with them now, but that's as far as it will go unless they give me an offer that I can't refuse (lol) but I doubt that is ever going to happen. I prob should have never apped for their card - but you have days when you read the approval section and you see approvals with lesser score than you, more INQs than you, all the numbers in comparison favor you and then app and get declined, very disheartening. That is why I wanted to see how long a wait until PenFed brings something to the table for me (i.e. this orig. post), but from what I am reading, that is a long road.
EDIT : Btw, what are/were some of the perks of the Pathfinder?

I tend to agree with @kdm31091. I have and love the Power Cash Rewards and carefully selected it as my 2% catch-all card. Then the AOD 3% card came along after-the-fact and I grabbed it also. As long as that program stays viable as it is, it easily beats my Power Cash. But I like having diversity and there is doubt whether AOD can make a 3% card work long-term. PenFed is a solid credit union so keeping accounts and trying to soften them up for whatever offerings they may have in the future might be a good strategy. They do like relationship. How long that might take is hard to say.
The Platinum Rewards does pay out only at about 0.85 ccp so that works out to 4.25% on gas. Not bad but there are better options. In my case, I get 4% already on my Costco card and 5% back on Freedom and Discover rotating categories. And there are other 5% gas options. The 3x on groceries is also easily beat since that works out to only 2.55%.

It had a $0 annual fee but it also paid out a $100 annual air travel credit and a statement credit to cover the application fee for TSA Precheck or Global Entry. I believe it paid 3% back on travel and 1.5% back everything else. It had travel assistance, car rental insurance, roadside assistance and other travel protections. No Foreign Tranaction Fees.

I have not been denied a card from them but I was approved on Thursday for a card with 700's across all bureaus and at least 25+ inq on each. I applied for a car loan with them the same day and was approved and I have had a savings account with them for a year with only $10 in it. I did fill out the survey while my credit card app went into review for two days and let them know I was unhappy with the processing time. This may have helped me get approved. You should try the survey. It was only for $5000 at 17.99 percent.
