Question: Macy's store card CLI?

Hello all.  My wife has had her Macy's store card (I think it's with Comenity) for over three years without ever getting a CLI that I know of, so I'm trying to help her.  It looks like the only way to do so online is to click the 'Request a Credit Line Increase' link, which appears to send a private message to their Customer Service.  Now it sits there and says they'll email her when they send her a response.  How long should it take to get a response?  I think she tried this a few months ago and never got any kind of a response -- no denial letter or anything.  This is quite from other credit card companies' CLIs.  Would we have better luck calling one of the backdoor numbers and talking to a rep?

Also, is it possible to have me added as an AU?  I don't see a link on their website.  Maybe we should just call and try the CLI and AU at the same time?

Thanks in advance!

Hi , Macy's is DSNB , not Comenity, and there are no backdoor numbers for them. She can call them or talk to them on chat during business hours when signed in to her Macy's account.

Thanks for the reply.  They finally got around to answering the online request two hours later.  After three+ years of perfect history, and 700+ FICO scores, they agreed to increase her limit from $1000 to $1100.  Woo hoo!  What a joke. Smiley Sad

I'd dump them if I were you. I'm getting rid of my Macy's card soon!

Re: Question: Macy's store card CLI?

This doesn't sound right. Break down her credit report. What accounts does she have, what are her limits and balances on them? How about income? Utilization on all accounts. Her Ex Fico 8 score as of today.

How often is the account used? What is the current balance? How long does she take to pay off a balance?

How much of an increase do you want? With Macy's and Bloomingdale's you need to call customer service to add an au and get a cli. Tell them how much you want.

If everything I asked about above looks good, I would tell them that a $100 limit after 3 years is unacceptable,  that you want a $2000 limit, and if the computer won't approve you for that, you want to speak to a manager with some authority. Tell them you also want an upgrade to the Am Ex card.

Did you request a specific amount?

I've usually requested CLIs through chat for Macy's, not the email.

Re: Question: Macy's store card CLI?

My Macy's card was opened in 1997 with $100 credit limit. I've never received an increase. Last week I requested an increase online.  I logged into my account and checked my message box. My limit was increased to $800. They responded quickly but I laughed about the increase.  I found the message just after getting $30k Venture, $10k Quicksilver, and $5k Amex approvals. My scores are in the mid 700s.

Part of that is that your account is dormant by not showing lots of use and not asking for cli's on a regular basis. They aren't going to give a $2000-$3000 increase all at once, Use it and pay it off before the holidays and ask for an increase to $1600 then.

Re: Question: Macy's store card CLI?

My account shows lots of use and low utilization, and they gave tiny CLI's when other lenders are not doing that.  Frustrating.

Re: Question: Macy's store card CLI?

Wow, a bit interesting, I opened my account about 2 years ago online and was given a $300 limit I think.  I made one small purchase and didn't use the card again for a long time.  For giggles about a year ago I asked for an increase at about the 1 year mark and was given a CLI to $1500.  A month and a half ago I had made some purchases and asked for a Special Events account and they gave me one rather quickly for $5300.  I did get the feeling that I could have asked for an increase on the regular account, but really didn't want to push it then.  Usage didn't seem to be an issue when I asked for the first increase and it didn't seem to be an issue for the Special Events account either.....

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
