My wife and I will be opening our first CC together next month once my reports update with significantly lower util.
We are both members at NFCU, although I use it as my primary checking and she just uses it for savings ($20k).
Her credit is flawless, mine not so much, although I do currenty have a CashRewards ($6k), auto loan, and have paid two small personal loans off in time.
My question is, when we apply for our joint card, should we do so through her login or mine? Is each applicant graded the same, or is the determination based mostly on the primary applicant?
Also, will we both have access to the card under each login to monitor and pay, or is it just the primary cardholder?
I chatted with NFCU:
1. Decisions are based primarily based on primary card holder
2. Primary card holder can grant equal access online
Navy makes adding joint either so I would actually let her apply on her own and then upon approval add you as joint.

Didn't see this until later, but we actually went ahead and applied jointly under her login. Instant $25K approval which I'm sure is all thanks to her.
Hopefully NFCU will consider upping my solo card's CLI a bit after the next AR ($6k)
wow, fantastic!
Does NFCU take joint credit limits into consideration at all when applying for a solo CLI?
I am really confused on how the accounts work at NFCU. My DH is the primary and I am joint. I asked the rep about getting a card in my name (not joint). He told me that once DH got his access number, I should request an account in my name only as a household member. This seems like a confusing way to do it. I have a separate access number already but if I apply for a card now, it is based on his info?? He has 2 cap 1 cards and I am an AU on one. For NFCU, we were going to try it with me getting the cards and him being AU so I can build credit in my name. I also have fewer inquiries than he does.

If you have your own access number and you apply for a cc it will be based on your credit and then you can make him an AU.
Congrats!!!!!! Questions which card did you apply for?
