I have had my AOD Visa Signature and Affinity FCU Cash Rewards each for just barely over a year. They had starting credit limits of $10,000 and $21,800, respectively. I have been planning to request credit limit increases on both and I understand that both will require a hard pull. Should I be at all concerned about requesting credit limit increases from these particular credit unions given the economy? I appreciate any guidance you folks are able and willing to offer. Thank you! Have a good Friday and enjoy the weekend.
A common saying is "The squeaky wheel gets the grease".
My dad use to tell me "The quacking duck gets shot".
@cws-21 - The most recent CLI approvals that I found for Affinity was over the summer. Please share your results should you opt to proceed. Best wishes!

I'm not sure what you mean, @FinStar. I was not asking about the process, but rather "Should I be at all concerned about requesting credit limit increases from these particular credit unions given the economy?"

Well, that depends on a couple of things: 1) is it a want or a need for the CLI on either card? 2) current economic trends or otherwise, if either CU is willing to extend additional credit they'll do so if they see fit based on your creditworthiness.

Thanks for the reply, @FinStar. I understand what you are saying. I don't believe I have been clear about the information I was hoping to obtain. I wanted feedback about whether or not requesting credit limits specifically with these two credit unions may rock the boat too much and result in, for example, no longer being grandfathered for the AOD Visa Signature. Any thoughts

No worries.
I highly doubt merely asking for a CLI would result in any type of adverse action or losing your status with AOD, for example. My understanding is that AOD caps the max CL at $25K (unless anything has change or someone can correct me), so the question really is (for AOD specifically), are you willing to go through all the hoops to obtain a negligible amount? I would definitely temper expectations since CLI amounts can be YEMV.
As far as Affinity CU goes, they'll approve the CLI based on their UW guidelines, if anything. A member recently reported a CLI to $35K on their card.
Personally, unless these particular CUs were scaling back or tightening their purse strings, I wouldn't worry to much about it. They'll either say yes or no.

This is the information for which I was hoping. I am fine with either or both saying no, though I will obviously be disappointed. I just didn't want to, as some say on here, "poke the bear," especially given the economy, if it were a bad idea to request the credit limit increases.
The only "bear" I worry about "poking" is Synchrony as both cards I have with them are at max limits without calling their credit solutions line and asking for more. Even then I'm not too worried but if for some reason I decide I want another Synchrony product it might be a case of lowering limits on existing cards before applying for more from them in order to keep exposure down and to prevent sudden account closure.
This isn't a problem you have. Most banks and credit unions have rules or systems in place to prevent outsized exposure to one person. AOD limiting their cash back card to a total limit of 25k, NFCU limiting total card limits to 80k, things like that. Some banks allow you to reallocate limits if needed to obtain a new card if you have reached their exposure limits with you. AMEX is a good example and Chase comes to mind as well.
Really I don't think it is in a consumers best interest or even place to worry about such things. They will let you know if there is a problem, that's for sure. All you can do is what is in your best interest. They sure as heck will for themselves.
