Question on CapOne & the 6 mo rule

I didn't realize you can only have one app every 6 mo now. Back when I got my cards I got 2 on the same day and eventually combined them.

My question is if i app for a second card, for the sole purpose of combining It into my current card after the 1st CLI.... will that mess up my 6 mo CLI on card 1 which is due 2/4?

Same thing but reversed... if I get my CLI on 2/4 can I then app for a 2nd card?

Thx

Re: Question on CapOne & the 6 mo rule

I'm almost positive the new apps and CLI on an existing card are independent of each other.

Example

CLI CARD 1 12-1-16 increase approved if history/spend supports

App new card 12-2-16 card approved if profile supports

Thx. Every time I think I know the rules they change so thought I'd ask.

For the record : If you combine two cards into one it's consider a CLI and the timer starts over for another 6 months.

Re: Question on CapOne & the 6 mo rule

Do both cards need to be 6 months old with a zero balance to combine?

Can you request a cli a cli and then combine?

I think the card you're planning on closing has to be a  0 bal and remember to cash out your rewards $

Re: Question on CapOne & the 6 mo rule

You are correct....only the card you are closing has to be zero balance. I just did the combination last week. The card that survives the combination is reset to the 6 month wait for CLI.

They are independent, but both on the same 6 month clock - what I did is get my 6 month CLI, then applied for a second card, then combined the first card into the second

Good Luck!
