Hubby and I are credit building. No credit score yet... 😩 (myfico said it could take 6mo.)
On the capital one pre-qual site it says hubby qualifies for both the quicksilver1 and the platinum.
He has a discover secured with 20/400. It's one and a half months old, already reporting according to CK
No baddies on Eq or Ex and two small medical collections PIF on TU.
2 hard pulls in Eq from the discover card.
My questions are... should we bother trying for an unsecured this early and risk the HP?
How accurate is Cap1 pre-qual page?
Which card is better? (I'm assuming platinum since it has no AF and we might not use it enoughto see nice rewards)
Thanks in advance 😊
The cap1 prequals are pretty accurate.
Personally, I would wait till the 6 month mark before applying for another card.
The QS1 breaks even if you spend $2600 ($217/mo) a year. Above that the rewards are profit. This was my first unsecured card, I used it for daily purchases and paid in full every month. The limit quickly grew from $500 to $8250 within 18 months. I was then able to product change to the Quicksilver (no fee).
I cannot speak to the Plat card and Credit limit increases.
A part of rebuilding credit is having available credit. For me the QS1 was really great in this regard.
Ok, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but one thing to consider with the Capital One card is that you get an HP on each of the credit agencies. That's one of the things that keeps me from looking into one of their cards. The other thing is the fact that I have their secured card and they will not graduate it to a regular one or give me a CL over $500.00 now. I only keep it for the age of it and use it once a month so it's active.

Dstm76,
Yes they pull all 3 😭
Hubby currently only has two hp on EQ and zero on Ex and TU.
I don't know about their secured cards as the only secured we have is Discover. Infact that is our only card period.
I thought so. I really don't see the point in pulling all three when most everyone else is satisfied with just one. That's good that he has so few inquires though.
Have you tried any of the other prequal sites?
An issue with the QuicksilverOne is that it's harder to product-change into a no-fee Quicksilver than the Platinum is.
