Reconsideration Question

I applied for a DiscoverIt last Friday and also a Barclayard Rewards MC. Both were denied, the Discover It initially and a few days for the letter to get here from Barclay.

Today, I called the Recon number for both and was denied again and I noticed that some members call more than once, so, I called back this evening.

Here is my question...when I called back to Barclays, the rep could see that I had called earlier in the day and he could not reverse that decision.

I don't understand how people are calling multiple times to the recon numbers if the computer they use know that you called before. He wouldn't even go any further in the conversation after he saw that I called already.

Am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

I hope that I have this in the right place. If not the moderators are free to move it.

Re: Reconsideration Question

Last i heard Discover doesn't really reconsider apps. However Barclays does and they usually are decent. Yes they can see how many times you call. Usually its just trying to get the right person to plead your case with. And if you called 3 or 4 times thats probably a good time to stop, and they will let you know on how to possibly change that. Such as the reasons and what they look for on applications.
BK7 - 2/21
Cap1 QS - 2k (4/21) - Closed
Mission Lane - 4k (11/21) - Closed
Venmo - 900 (11/21) - Closed
SavorOne - 2700 (12/21)
VentureOne - 2000 (7/22) - Closed
CareCredit - 12000 (6/23)
Sam's Club - 2500 (7/23)
Venture - 5500 (8/24)
HELOC - 33000 (7/23)

Re: Reconsideration Question

Discover isn't well-know for reconsiderations OP.  They will not overturn any auto-declined applications.  For Barclay, you can probably keep trying until you're blue in the face (some have persevered in the past but it doesn't mean everyone will).  And, if their notes already have it documented that you've called, then it's going to be a moot point.  YEMV.

What reasons did Barclay cite for the decline?

What reasons did Barclay cite for the decline?

Too few accounts. (I have two of the capital one credit cards for 'average' credit'.)
Need longer payment history.  (Both of my card are about 6 months old)
Balances too high on the two cards.  (I used them to clear other charge-off in a PIF for two accounts, but, paying the cards down now.)

I doubt calling back will do any good. But, I've only called twice. So, maybe it's time to garden a while longer with the two capital one cards that I have.

Too short of a history and a combination of high utilization usually kills those chances OP.  If I were you, I would wait (around 12 months) to allow things to be more optimal with your profile and your newer accounts have aged a bit.

Re: Reconsideration Question

If you end up doing a recon with Discover, please update. I also was declined 3 nights ago. :-( Wasn't thinking about reconsidering, but heard they aren't very good.

If you were auto-declined without a secured or joint account offer, Discover will not reconsider.

@Agree with @FinStar.  Discover recons are not successful. Your best bet is to wait and try again at a later time.
