Regret apping for a Best Buy card. When will I learn?

Yes, I'm 4 years and 7 months out of CH7. With a 20k Venture Card, $20k QS card, 15k Ebates Visa, 18k PenFed Amex, 15k with Barclays, 15k Barney's and a slew of other high limit cards, I wouldn't think a BB card would be so damn hard to get. Yet, as my credit has grown, I keep fooling myself into believing I could qualify, only to get instantly turned down every time. I know it's Citi, but I have an Exxon Card, Shell, Sears and Macy's. I just don't get it. Maybe someone can give me some pointers as to how I can recon it and who to contact. Just needed to vent. Thanks!

If you were auto-declined and not due to verfication then Citi Retail Services/BBY will not reconsider the declined outcome.  Every portfolio's UW is different, even if it's overseen/managed by the same lender.  Just keep in mind that high CLs on your other tradelines and scores are not everything.  Work on the reasons they provide on the letter and try again when things are more optimal.

I hear ya. Lack of credit with them is obviously not going to keep me from buying anything I want or need there, just seems silly that I couldn't even be approved for a store card, even with a low limit to start. Plenty of income and my utilization is less than 4%. I do have a lot of recently opened accounts and inquiries, over 20ea on all three CRs.  Got income north of 100k too.

I am sorry that happened. Citi is WAY over'rated. They have VERY low starting limits and are rated poor for there rewards structure and system. I do not see any benefit of getting into Citi. They also are KNOWN for balance chasing and closing account for very little changes in your credit profile. I hate to say this but I would stay clear of any Citi products.

Re: Regret apping for a Best Buy card. When will I learn?

Two years ago I bought a laptop at BB. Had the cash on me but the sales clerk asked me to apply for a BB card. With scores in the upper 500's at the time (long story) I wasn't going to but was told you get $25 off just for applying. So I did and was given the BB Visa with a $500 limit. Paid off 6 months same as cash in 5 months. Six months later they upped it to $1K cli. Six months later I applied for AA Visa and was told no due to BK 26 years ago! Last month I requested $5K limit on my BB Visa and was approved immediately. Two weeks ago applied for Macy AMEX and was approved for $4K. ALL of these cards are through Citibank so try to find the logic!
