Outside of the app spree this week, I had 2 new cards since December 13 (one from Dec 13 and one from Apr 15), she has two with one being a store card. I guess they get nervous when I apply for 3 more this week + 1.

possible depending on what CR agency they pulled they saw the recent HP's as I doubt the accounts showed.. Just when you call they are basically looking for a reason to deny you.. Complete 180 from what they were like last year at this time.. You called and you were golden, not anymore with them.. They are clamping down BIG time on bonus chasers/card churners. Golden rule is just not to call unless they call you even if they ask you to call.. Call = Denial for 98% of the stuff I read recently from this board and FT vs. letting it ride out 98% approval if you get the 2 week or 30 day message by automated phone system.. you can apply next month and let it ride out and most likely if your profile/income supports it you should be golden.
I assume they will send a letter with denial reason?
The thing is that we requested to lower our credit limit on one of the card to fit the Hyatt in, but still no go.

Ya they will send the reasons, but take them with a grain of salt.. Lowering CL's with existing cards doesn't work on recons either anymore as they know bonus is most likely the agenda. As stated try after a month if you still want the card/cards, but this time dont call them
Also if you want.. lower your CL's by 5k to leave room before next application if you think you are close to their internal threshold of how much they are willing to lend you
The thing is I don't know what their limit is. I assume it goes by household income? Also what should the ratio be, 1 to 1? If we are at 500K, does it mean we should have 500K limit or 250K? I just applied anyway. I figure since we are not getting a mortgage anytime soon, might as well get all the bonus to make the trip cheaper.

Hard to tell.. It is kinda based on your history with them an internal score with them and income (I hope you aren't saying you have 250k of CC limits with them now??).. I would say someone that has a good Fico and a good history with them being CC's if you made say 100k, could safely have 50k in CL's with them. Just a guess, but from what I have seen people around 100k can get 50-70k with Chase off the top of my head.
Best of luck!
Not individually and not just with Chase. I was speaking as a household

ah ok.. 250k total CL isn't outragous for say 500k household income if that is what you were saying.. Quite a few people on this forum have income of 100k and 400-500k in availabe credit across multiple lenders with them having 50-70k with Chase.
Yeah, I was just gauging to see what is reasonable and what isn't. I am sure they know who my wife is, that's why I was saying household. Our numbers aren't quite that high, but just want to see if around 50% is what they look at
