I prefer to have a low balance or no balance on a card when I'm going to request a CLI. What is the success rate when the balance is a medium-high amount of the card's credit line?
I'm currently taking advantage of Barclay's no interest balance transfer so my balance is in the $5800 range. CLi is $10,500. It's almost time to check in for an increase. I'm wondering if I should do it or wait.
I have had success with Discover while carrying a 28% balance, if that helps at all. I have zero apr so will carry a balance for a while with tons of spending.
Anyone higher than that?
Hey MC...
I read your post, and then got to the Taking advantage of the Barclay's BT'...and I stopped reading, LOL..and said to myself..."(made a face, and said eeeekkk")...LOL..
Playing with fire if you ask me. They are so sensitive and finicky, I personally wouldnt push the subject, but...Im just one person's opinion. IF you were to do anything...Id wait it out for the 12th or 13th statement, and see if they give you an auto, or if you really feel like you want to contact them and bring attention to your acct, you could call and do the apr reduct thing/CLI sp game...
Sorry, don't have anything else more than that, lol..

Well i cant say for sure for every lender. But With Discover for sure. i was at 53% and asked for cli and it was granted. Barclays very low usage but i did get Cli;s with balances. just dont think anytime was ever near 20% usage. Amex also balance very low and Got my Cli's.
I got an auto-CLI last month (first one ever 18 month old acct) on a Barclay card that was at 80% and had actually (with interest) been over the limit the statement before. Only $30-40 over, and I paid more than minimum the day the statement cut, but still...
Also got a 4% APR reduction by requesting via phone, after I saw the auto-CLI. Now by then I was down to 60% because of the CLI, but still, pretty warm for a non-promo-rate card
Discover gave me a CLI (small) with a 75% util.
