Request Capital One CLI

I was approved for my Capital One Venture One card this past August with a $7k CL.  I've used the card a good amount and Cap1 should be happy.  How long should I wait before requesting a CLI?

Thanks!

Re: Request Capital One CLI

If it’s within the first 6 months of having the card then you could try at the 4th month but most likely it would be the 6th month then every 6months after that you can ask for a CLI.

Re: Request Capital One CLI

I think you can request when your card is three months old. There's no harm in trying because there aren't any clocks that reset. If you request too soon, they'll say you're "ineligible."  If you're denied, you can try again at any time. If they offer an increase that you feel is too low, you can decline it and try again later.

Once you accept an increase, you're ineligible for another for six months. That's the only clock you need to be concerned about.

Re: Request Capital One CLI

Just gave it a shot, asking for an increase from my current $7k to $12k.  It said I will get notified in 2-3 days.  Is that good or bad?  Too much of an increase requested?  Will they give me a lower total line if, say, they are comfortable with $10k, or deny my request outright?

That's usually a decline. As mentioned further upthread, no harm, no foul if your request was premature. Patience OP, patience.

FS-Darn!  If a decline I'll just wait till 6 mo anniv.  Any advice on how much of an increase I should ask for?  Maybe it's a sky's the limit thing and they just approve what they're ok with?  I ask for $40K and they approve $10k for example?

Thank you Obi Wan!

Re: Request Capital One CLI

I'd suggest trying at the 4th month mark again, just to see what fruit, if any, it may yield. It's kind of a trial and error thing because even with as many DPs floating around, every situation is unique. If you hear crickets again, then try it around 6 months for sure.

There was nothing wrong with the amount you requested. If you are using it heavily, you can even try $15K or more.

Whatever you do, no matter how many times you try, do not get discouraged. Capital One has been a little funky as of recent times and for good reason given charge offs/losses and the markets in general. So, if you get a CLI, that's actually pretty good!

Re: Request Capital One CLI

Got declined on my CLI. Here is the only reason given:
“· A credit limit increase is currently not available upon request because Capital One is evaluating account activity at assigned credit limits.”

Does this simply mean the card is too new? Now with my Amex Gold and BBP the Venture One has become not even a secondary card except for possibly a large purchase as I have the $7K CL and since still in first year I can lay over time with no interest charges. However, most of my spend will now go to Gold and BBP.

Are they telling me I need to spend a lot in order to get the CLI? In the four months since it’s been open I’ve spent about $5,000 total.

Thanks!

That denial sounds like the typical, "insufficient experience at current limit" that you get from other lenders. They're just not ready to offer you a CLI for now.

Give it a few more months, keep using and paying and they will show you the luv you are looking for.
