So I applied for this card since I am within the range listed on this site. I get the denied letter. "Our records indicate that a previous credit card account that you held with Barclaycard Bank Delaware experienced charge off, bankruptcy, severe delinquency or other negative performance. No credit bureau report was used in this decision. I started to think back & realized I've never had a card with Barclaycard. So I called up & they said it was a Avaiator Red card. I told the rep, ma'am I've never had that card before. Then she says, it could have been an American Airlines or US Airways card as well. I said I had a US Airways card but it wasn't with you. She said it was with Bank Of America & we've gotten some of their accounts. I said Yes, it was BOA. I was initially thinking my identiy had been stolen. LOL!!
I find it funny that you say I can't apply based off another banks records, also the referenced card was about 10 years old & also you didn't pull my scores to see if I qualified. The rep said I could apply again in the future. But I'm thinking to myself, if you can't get pass that old account from BOA, how would I ever get a chance to have my score pulled to be considered? That's unfair!! Has anyone experienced anything like that before with Barclaycard? Any suggestions on how to get them to pull my score?
When accounts are sold to other lenders, they get the whole report, the good and the bad. However, in your case you had an account that was sold to Barclay's and they see the bad debt internally. They are blacklisting you on the basis of that and to my knowledge there is no way to get them to pull a report. Why would you want to waste an inquiry and get denied, when thy have told you the details of your denial.
Only time will tell when you would be approved for their products.
27 years ago!!! Holy crap Batman!!! That's ridiculous!!
Wow..sucks! Now you know, be thankful you didn't get a hard hit on your report

I had the exact same experience last summer. I applied for the Sallie Mae (when it was still available) and the events unfolded just as you described, only I didn't bother calling since I remembered having an old Juniper card that was charged off, also around 10 years ago. Like in your case, my Juniper account was sold/transferred to Barclays around the time (or shortly after) the account was charged off.
It does suck, but in the end I'm just thankful I'm blacklisted with Barclays instead of Amex, Discover, or Synchrony, all lenders I value much more than I ever would Barclays anyway. Barclays is also well known around here to be really picky about new accounts and new inquiries - even after they approve you - so at least we don't have to be concerned about that.
For the 'record', Discover doesn't seem to blacklist (at least not me), and while Amex does have a very (very!) long memory they will usually give you another chance as well (eventually).
Barclays is one lender that really doesnt appeal to me.. Plus, they just do NOT sound friendly!
That happened to me with the Kohls card. I applied and got a message that said I had already applied for the card. I knew I hadn't, as I had a Kohls charge years ago and it got charged off in bankruptcy in 1998. I called Kohls and asked and she told me...you had a card that was charged off and I can give you the name and number of the credit company that purchased the debt.....Hell I am not paying that, so I will do without a Kohls card!

FUnny, I chased a Barclay's card for a few months, never had an issue with them OR any body else they may have bought but kept getting denied. Finally decided that there are way too many CC's out there to "Have to have" one so I moved on and probably won't be back. I can have a long memory too and would rather be loyal to those who were there with offers when the chips were down for me.
Some, like Cap1 are very forgiving once you have a year without any slips and others just won't let go. There is NOTHING about a Barclay card that makes it more acceptable when buying goods or services so they can keep their cards (at least as far as I'm concerned).
I LOVE my Cap1 CC's and the options to PC, combine and the CLI's I've gotten already.
