I noticed in the older threads SDFCU was reported as a soft pull for membership and the secured card. I applied this week and received a hard pull for membership with no products other than the mandatory share savings account. I called and asked if it wasn't supposed to be a soft pull. I was told that it used to be a soft pull but as of Jan 1 2016 it is now a hard pull on EX to join SDFCU. Just a heads up.
That's good information to know. SDFCU's claim to fame has always been the soft pull for the secured card. It's what got them a lot of internet attention in a crowded and competitive CU landscape, but maybe not turning into enough profitable business in the end.

Thanks for the update
I've personally pushed their product over the years to those in need of an easily acquired TL with a good APR and no FTF's to obtain a positive TL
Sadly I think this will cause me to not push their product in the future because the best feature was no HP
Which was a win win on all counts for those trying to build credit w/o affecting scores due to a HP and approval odds were very high
Although I dd see in rare cases denials ....so now that it's a HP not worth the chance IMHO
It's been a hard pull if you applied online, a soft if you applied over the phone.

Okay. I didn't realize that. I applied online.
Well...I also sent an email about it and this is what I received:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your email. As of 12/23/2015, SDFCU began utilizing a hard pull consumer credit report on all individuals (excluding minors) applying for new membership.
Sincerely,
Membership Development

Subject: Hard pull or Soft pull on credit report for membership application?
Hi,
Is it a Hard Pull or Soft Pull on my credit report if I apply for membership?
Thanks,

Not exactly true. I applied for membership 3 months ago online and it was an SP. I think this as manyquestions unfortunately found out, a change in overall policy .
NASA is known for soft pull membership and credit products. They hard pulled me. Twice.
I joined SDFCU on 12/8, just set up my secured loan in Jan. No inquiries at all on EX per CCT. Unfortunate if policy changed 12/23, and lucky for me.
