SDFCU product change

Has anyone attempted or succeded in a CC product change with SDFCU?

I started with a secured Platinum that graduated at about the 13 month mark.  A year after that, I requested and received a CLI which doubled my limit (now at $7,000).

My credit and scores have improved a great deal this year and I've begun receiving preapproved offers from SDFCU.  Among them is a $15K Visa Premium CashBack+ which carries Signature benefits.

Since this particuar credit union seems to be a bit quirky, I'm not sure what to expect, or if I should even try to do a product change.  I would love to be able to grab that card with the 2-1/2 years of history the Platinum has.

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: SDFCU product change

@Jaymes  Since they are offering you the card via a hard pull.  You contact them and ask them if a product change is possible.

Re: SDFCU product change

Preapproved offer would be processed as SP, and no HP. And, this CU doesn't allow product change.

Re: SDFCU product change

You can call and ask about product change, but my understanding is that SDFCU doesn't do product changes.  I've been a member of that credit union for over 30 years and the "quirkiness" that everyone refers to is that their systems are basically antiquated.  I had an SDFCU platinum card for over 30 years.  When I chose to carry a balance, I wanted to set up auto pay but couldnt figure out how to do it online to a non-SDFCU bank account.  I finally used their at the time antiquated Account 24 system to set up recurring payments, but the payments were not perpetual and simply ended after 12 months.  After I became past due 30 days, I set up the recurring payments for a second year and then went 30 days past due a second time; at that point, they closed my 30 yr old account.  Once closed, they would not reopen it.  After ten months, I paid the account off in full and am now receiving pre-approval offers for a new credit card with their best interest rates; I just am not interested in reopening a new credit card account with a pre-approval after they closed a 30 year account.

I have two recommendations for anyone who has an SDFCU credit card:  (1) set up auto pay; believe it or not, to do that, you call them and have them send you a circa 1960 era paper form that you return to them to initiate the auto pay.  In today's world, I never guessed this would still be done when I can logon to any other issuer and set up auto pay online in minutes; (2). they farm their credit card customer service out to a third party in Florida that is worthless for any question more complicated than your current balance or a request for a replacement card.  If you have a serious question about your account, you need to call the main SDFCU phone number and then choose on the phone tree that you wish to talk with the collections office.  I have never had any account in collections, but the SDFCU collections office is the only staff I know that can answer important questions about your credit card account.  As for me, I will probably now stick with Navy Federal and USAA who manage their credit card customer service in-house.  I find the biggest benefit of SDFCU is their ability to process incoming and outgoing international SWIFT transfers for a modest cost.
