SYW CLD *face palm*

So, I'm almost embarassed to write this, but her goes...

I have 5 Citi legacy cards and am at my internal limit with them. 31,400 exposure. No more increases for years(although I haven't tried to get any in a couple of years.) I'm going on what was said to me before when I used to try.

I also have Best Buy and ShopYourWay. Both WERE at 10,000(each). I didn't try to get increases on either because I felt I couldn't and 10k is a nice round number. Very low usage on all citi cards. Recently, I've given SYW some spend due to offers for statement credits for paying utilites and spending 500 per month. So SYW gets about 200-500/month.

I have no negatives and over 400,000 available credit. Always pay bill in full.

I logged on tonight to pay 400+ dollars and got the itch to press the CLI button just for s---- and giggles. The message popped up that I *THOUGHT* was what I'd seen many times before from usually- Synchrony---where they say they can't give you the full amount requested, but will meet you somewhere in between. Since I've seen this before, I didn't read it closely. It told me what my new limit would be and if I wanted to accept it. I quickly glanced and thought they were saying they'd give me 2,000 more instead of the full 10,000 I requested. I was also busy print-screening and that was getting in my way. I quickly accepted the "credit limit increase" only to see my new limit was 2,000!

NEVER have I've seen an "increase" given as a decrease,  nor did I think that was even possible. I was so sure you'd either be moved up some or completely denied and sent the reasons why. If there was to be a decrease, it's done on the banks own after reviewing your reports or something. I do know you can call the banks up and ask for a decrease, but NEVER would I imagine that I'd have a 3rd option for an "increase" where they ask you if you'd like a decrease when you're specifically requesting an increase.

Lesson learned. Reading is fundamental...even when you THINK you know what the writing is going to say so you jump ahead and quickly "ACCEPT".  What a HUGE /facepalm!

Ugh!  Sorry to hear that.  I have an account that actually gives me the option to turn on the flag that says "Turn Off the ability for us to review your account for a credit limit increase" or something to that nature and I thought when I saw that...who would use that option?

I wonder if Citi is trying to phase out this card in general?

Re: SYW CLD *face palm*

Ok...either there was a glitch or someone is trying to make me look like a liar.

I just logged back in and now my limit is 12,000.

Earlier, right after I accepted the "increase", it said my limit was 2,000 and deducted what I owed. I was so shocked that I logged out and logged back in because I know you sometimes have to do that. It still said 2,000. I DID immediately go right back and request an 10,000 and they said they'd get back to me. I waited an hour after it happened to write the above post because I was still so shocked. All is well that ends well, I guess...?thumbnail (1).jpgshopyourway.PNG

I've never seen anything like this scenario, but definitely an oddity.  So it appears there was some sort of system glitch, since the end result now displays the CLI.

Issue closed?

Yes! With a happy ending. I'm such a print screen person, I wished I had taken an image of the finalized 2,000 before it turned to 12,000. I was just so shocked and embarassed that I walked right into the trap. It even told me what my new limit was to be(as well as my available credit of 1,500+) and it didn't click until I saw the new 2,000 limit, THEN I went back and read the 1st screen asking me to accept the offer.
