Safe to apply for a new card?

I don't need anymore credit at the moment. But I'm concerned about dropping AAoA if i ever want to app for a better card 6 to 12 months down the line and then an auto loan soon after that. So i was considering getting a card or two now that I could garden for the next 6 months.

Do you think it makes sense to get some 'easy' cards just for the sake of improving AAoA? These will help with like 6 months of more gardening with my current 4 cards?

I don't want my AaoA going back to 7 months if i apply for a new card in a couple months so i want to increase number of aging accounts. That'll be accruing age from this month if possible.

Amex shows me 2 prequal cards that I want to give a shot. My youngest card, chase, will be 3 statements cut by end of this month. And my cap one will be 4 statements cut by mid of this month.

My signature scores are latest as of this week.

Discover seems to have booted me off and shows "oops something went wrong" because I checked their prequal page way more than they liked i guess. So theyre off the list.

5k+ CLs: Chase Amazon, Cap1 QS1,
10k+ CLs: BofA Cash Rewards, Amex Cash Magnet, Citi DC, Barclays Uber, Citi Premier, Chase Saphire Preff,Cap1 Savor1

If you don't need a new card and are looking to get a better one in a few months or an auto loan, I wouldn't do it. The more new accounts you open, the more it hurts your AAoA.

OP

IMHO, it’s time to go to the garden. Take care of your 3 new CCs and let them age to a year.
