Hi all-
I bought a groupon today for a Sam's Club memebership. We have been thinking for a while to get hubby the Sam's credit card, but he doesn't want to completely cold app for it. I have heard of people getting asked to apply for the card because of a pop up at registration when buying a membership. What I have read about the subject were threads from a couple of years ago, nothing too recent. He knows it will be a hard pull, and is ok with that, but just wanted a pre approval to get an idea if he stands a chance since he is probably boarline for store card with only about a 645 fico 8. Ok, so now my question, on these threads most people state they were offered the card when they went to buy the actual membership and all of their information such as address was entered by a rep in their system . Well, I have already bought it, registered it online in their system myself, etc. it is all good to use. If we go to guest services for the a physical card, they will just print it out, there should not be anything else that needs to be done. Is there still a possibility of getting that pop up even if we are all done with registration? Also, do they even still pre approve? Like I said, the threads were from a couple of years ago. Thanks for the help!
Mine was about two years ago. Went through Groupon then got the pre-approval while at Sam's signing up for the membership. Started with a $5,000 MC. Be prepared for lots of emails from Groupon in the future. We've been through a several year period of easy credit and I just wonder what will happen when the bottom drops out. Will banks be shutting down accounts or allowing people to keep their credit? Seems like Synchrony and Comenity will use the income verification route to shut down accounts.
I do not buy premium memberships. I wanted to spend as little as possible to get that pre-approval. Had to spend $100 to get the $40 off the first purchase on the Groupon deal. If they did not tell you you were pre-approved when you got your membership card then you are not pre-approved. They push their credit department and would have gotten you to sign up right then.
Even with a pre-approval it can be hit or miss. I have been denied twice with pre-approvals from them, once a paper mailer and once at the register. Both times scores were between 640 and 670. Now that I would probably get approved, I realize I have much better options with Discover and Chase Freedom.
