Just curious, why did you get a self lender when you had an auto (installment) loan already?

I didn't know... I was reading thru and thought it's good to have and opened it.

Direct competitor will be citi prestige, USB altitude reserve, amex plat. Somewhat similar ones are wells fargo propel, amex gold

To find out which one maybe good, some questions will need to be asked:

1.Whats your spending habit? each month, how much do you spend in each category?

2. How often do you fly?

3. Are you using one airline almost exclusively? if so, which one?

4. How do you fly? economy or business?

5. What are the values of airport lounge to you (consider your flying habit and airports you will use)?

6. How much uber do you use each month (including uber eat)?

7. How often each year do you book hotel for more than 4 nights (including 4 nights)?

8. Do you mind signing up for multiple airline loyalty accounts and comparing values every time you book? or do you just want simple valuation with a fixed, decent, value for the reward points.

9. Do you have the ways to meet the spending requirement of 5k on an amex network card?

Hi,

I'll try to answer my best to the questions,

1.Each month my total spend avarage around 3-4k

Grocery, shopping and gas are top categories

2. Once or twice yearly on domestic, international every other year once

3. No particular airline

4. Economy

5. Not so much. It's like a nice to have

6. I use Uber rarely. Last time I used Uber was 9-10 months ago

7. More than 4 nights, not actually. Normally 2 days and Max 3

8. I do not might having multiple loyalty accounts and comparing before booking something if it gonna add more value to my travel

9. Meeting the spending on Amex should not be an issue but Amex platinum does not interests me to be honest

Re: Sapphire Reserve and alternatives

And to let you all know, I went into a branch today and checked and no Pre-approval. Went ahead and apped for it. Received 7-10 days message. I called the automated and it was saying the same.

I have read stories about AA from Chase. I hope they don't close my other accounts.

If they do, not the end of the world I guess. If I'm not applying for a card when I need it, then there cannot be a better time.

But if they deny, not sure if I have to try to any other card or not...

Re: Sapphire Reserve and alternatives

Thanks for anwsering.

Unless you spend 1k on gas a month, It seems you should just get an Amex Gold and that should be sufficient.

4x on grocery, dining, 3x on travel, which can be 6% to 8% reward for travel.

Just to be clear its not flat 3x travel, its 3x on travel booked directly through airline or amextravel.com. In that respect a CSR would be better because their broad categories of travel. With that being said if you want a gas or groceries card for domestic useage EDP is a pretty good option but unfortunately you will get hit FTF when you travel outside the US

Hi Guys,

I have a travel plan by end of the year. I'm expecting the flight tickets to be around 4K. I do not have a travel card yet but planning to get one. CSR fits my needs and I like the rewards structure and also would be more beneficial as I currently have CF & CFU.

My concern is I'm at 7/24 now and will be 5/24 in Oct and only by Feb'2020 I will go down to 3/24.

You already get 3 UR on everything from the CFU. Use that for the airline tickets and it is equivalent earning.  After you get below 5/24 you should be easily approved for CSR.

Best of luck on the CSR, but I'd be concerned about the 7/24 and recent new Chase cards. I would not start diluting your points earnings.

Yes its a denial. I just got the letter in the account and email stating that they have sent me the letter.

It says they did not approve because of too many credit card accounts in 2 years.

My banker promised to call back office number if it will be a denial, should i ask her or should i call in for recon?  Or just jot try and let it go?

Right, i get 3% on everything but CSR has trip delay, trip interruption, rental insurance and much more right? But guess i would have to wait!
