Re: Score needed for Lowes?

Hey folks! I am closing on my first home (!!!) on Monday and would like to apply for a Lowe's card afterward. I hear they pull TU which is good because that one is my highest. As of yesterday my TU score was 701. Do you think that is good enough to get a descent limit from them? I would really like to take advantage of their long term financing offer to finance a deck so I would need a sizable limit for the card to benefit me. What do you think?

Good luck at the closing.  I think it sounds like a good plan.  Like others have said take advantage of calling credit solutions and get it bumped up once approved.

@kaylkay65

Did you apply in-store at Lowe's?

Because the word on the street for years has been Lowe's ALWAYS pulls TU (almost always there have been some exceptions on the board) if you apply online, but Lowe's pulls Experian when you apply in-store. I'm also in Texas and I'll have a 100% clean TU report in 51 days or less depending on my EE efforts. This would be heartbreaking if Lowe's pulls Experian and not my Transunion.

Impressive up to $15K in 3 months with sub-700 score. What was your last TU score when you got bumped to $15K?

In early March I app'd Lowes online and was denied (don't remember the reason) though my TU score 660ish. I wanted Lowes or Home Depot for around the house stuff (and I knew I wasn't getting in with HD). On 3/16 I went to Lowes and was approved for $1500 immediately but a call to CS while still in the parking lot yielded nothing. On 4/1 MY TU jumped to 690ish (still have no idea what triggered that kind of rise but I'll take it) so I called CS and got bumped to $12K.

I applied online.  Never considered going to the store.  When my CL went from $10k to $15k my score was about 685.  My score has since dropped because I had to buy some new furniture in December and have had higher utilization from carrying balances on cards with zero interest, but my scores are on the rise again because I should have everything paid off by June.

Re: Score needed for Lowes?

Thanks, Skybuilder and KayKay. I'm a little worried about the Experian pull you got from living in Texas like me and it not being an in-store application. Smiley Surprised

At the time I applied, I had just started rebuilding and it would have mortified me to go to the store and apply and be turned down.  Now it doesn't bother me as much if I get turned down cause I have a fair amount of credit.  One other data point was that when I applied, I had 3 collections still reporting-two were paid and one wasn't and even with that I still got approved.  Good luck... and know that if you get turned down, you can turn around and reapply 31 days later.

Re: Score needed for Lowes?

@KayKay

I'm not worried nor am I'm going to be turned down for a Lowe's card. I'm simply concerned now about Lowe's pulling Experian, and not Transunion in 7-8 weeks when I apply.

Experian is my highest score right now (even though my TU/EX are identical in every way) but my Experian report won't be 100% clean until July 1st unlike TU by June 1st. Smiley Sad

Even if they HP EX,  all SPs will be TU, so it's win-win for you.

Re: Score needed for Lowes?

Yes, but with my income (6-figures) with zero negatives and inquiries on my TU come June 1st I wanted, at least, a $10K starting Lowe's credit line after calling the UW. I'm not going to get that with Experian even with calling the UW since that first CL will go off the Experian report if they do pull Experian, not Transunion. Hopefully, you were just some random person they ran Experian on (because you're so special). Smiley Very Happy

Re: Score needed for Lowes?

Lowes seems to be the fastest growing synchrony card for most. Here is my time line.

Approved mid september with $300. Applied online was pulled TU ( I am in TN)

Right after approval, several attempts for cli was a no-go Maxed out the card right away with a $297 dishwasher, paid it off, and then:

CLI 10/05/15 $300 to $5000

CLI 10/12/15 $5000 to $10,000

CLI 10/13/15 $10000 to $12000

Congrats on the house OP and Good Luck with Lowes!
