Seeking Strategy - new app + separate CLI

Hello, actually stumbled upon this forum today and fell down the rabbit hole for an hour +. Decided I’m going to apply for the Uber Visa card, which I am fairly certain I will get based on reading 20 pages in that thread. My question is this: I currently have two other CCs, a Quicksilver and a Doublecash. If I’m going to burn a hard pull on the new card, does anyone have recommendations on how to best capitalize on CLI for the others? I believe I read Citi uses hard pull for manually initiated CLI, can I tell them it was just pulled for the Uber card? Therefore getting two “benefits” from the one pull? Or would they need to run their own pull? Same question applies to Cap1.

I tried to find these answers before posting, sorry if this topic was already discussed which I’m sure it was. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

This place can definitely be a rabbit hole!

Uber is Barclays, so you can’t use same HP as asking for a Citi CLI...different Bank.

Welcome to the rabbit hole. There is much to learn here.

So, if I understand correctly, you're asking to see if you can get a new card app approved and a CLI from a single pull? To get the benefit of two actions for a single hard pull (i.e. app + CLI, 2 apps, etc.), your mileage can higly vary, and they have to be from the same bank (that is, you can't app Barclay's and then ask Citi to use Barclay's HP to decision a CLI).  If I recall correctly, Barclay's almost exclusively pulls TU. Citi will likely pull EQ for a HP CLI.

You mention that you have a Citi DC. Depending on how long you've had the card, you may be able to get a SP CLI. If you go to Services >> Credit Card Services >> Request a Credit Limit Increase and see the following statement:

"It's easy to find out if you qualify for a credit limit increase. A credit bureau report will not be requested and you will receive an instant decision."

Your CLI request will be SP.

If you don't have SP language, then you can request with an HP. So, if you app Uber and do a HP request with Citi, you'll have 1 HP each on EQ and TU.

As for C1QS - you should be able to submit a CLI request that is also SP.  (I haven't had a C1 card since last summer, but in my 10 years with them, I never had a HP for a CLI request.).

I hope this helps you.

Re: Seeking Strategy - new app + separate CLI

Thank you both. I can’t leverage one HP from bank 1 towards a CLI for bank 2, understood.

Also learned that Citi should be a SP for the CLI, as I was mistaken. I thought I read it was a HP in a different thread.

So thank you both, I had all of my questions answered.

No worries.

If you are able to get a SP CLI with Citi, you can get one every six months. (I didn't get SP language on my DC until 9 months after I got the card.) C1 will also give you a CLI every 6 months too.
