Exact same letter I received.  Burnt AMEX for 36K back in Oct 2010 in BK7. I was finally allowed to get back in Apr 2023 and I did applied for the lowest credit they got, the AMEX EVERYDAY CARD and AMEX gave me a $15.8K starting limit. I know that thru time, AMEX will let you back in.

It's not a given and time on the blacklist usually depends on the amount written off. Honestly, for the amount of the loss, you were let in very quickly compared to others. For that amount it's not uncommon to be blacklisted for 20+ years. I've also seen people blacklisted for life for sub 10k losses. They liked something about you.

Its true that there are many folks who are still blacklisted for 35+ years who burnt Amex for $30k or more, but I believe those people never paid any of these money nor filed BK for these debt which is not the case with this member @docbang because he seems to have filed BK....So, those who filed BK and included Amex debt in there then I have seen Amex letting them back in after certain years unlike those who never filed BK nor made any settlement with Amex.

Congratulations!   This gives me a lot of hope and a guideline.  So 12.5 years for you to get back in.

I burned AMEX for about $18K in my BK7 in 08/2013.   The BK is off TU and should soon roll off EX and EQ.   Since AMEX apps are now SP, unless you are approved, I've been applying here and there, but I'm going to start applying every month on the same day to see how long it takes (if ever) to get approved.   I will also go for their lowest tier, no0fee card like you did.   I have received the exact same letter quoted in this thread for each denial.

I burned Chase for about $57K.   Any best on when they will take me back?   Maybe never?

The everyday isn't the lowest tier card. It still requires about 700 score to get. The easiest cards to get are the charge cards followed by the Delta and Hilton co-branded cards.

I believe this Everyday card is a MR points earning/transferring card, right? I do have this card but its in sock drawer for years...

The American Express EveryDay card is Amex's entry-level Membership Rewards card, with earnings of 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar at US supermarkets on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1X), 2 points per dollar when using the card to book trips through American Express Travel and 1 point for every.

Re: Share your American Express Denial Letters Please

Denied for a 3x/91 6k>18k CLI on a Delta Reserve. Asked for 3x bank statements, which I provided. No counter offer, just a denial after two days.

"We made this decision for the following reason(s):
The bank statements you provided indicate the total credit amounts are low in comparison with
the credit limit requested."

Multiple reps tell me they have no idea if that means income is too low or spend is too low. Went a little crazy the past year and cooling off at 6/12 right now so not to take it personal, but pretty disappointed with Amex's inability to explain a decision on a high AF account. I felt like the reps were more knowledgeable and helpful when I've called on my BCE account.

@narcan04 Like your username. Had to give it more than I'd cared to to unfortunately.

Re: Share your American Express Denial Letters Please

I too applied for the Amex Platinum after they were included in a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in 2011 for just under 25K.  Full Disclosure...I am certain that I am on the black list that they decline even exists.  I went through an awful divorce where my Ex, who was not an authorized user ran up the charges after memorizing my number.  During the divorce, I pursued criminal charges and the District Attorney declined to file the fraud and theft charges since my Ex was still technically my spouse at the time and because it would further complicate the divorce proceedings.  Since 2011, I have maintained strict financial discipline as I did before I entered in to the toxic relationship and I am in the best financial shape I have ever been with 800+ scores for all 3 bureaus, investments, savings, solid equity with a sub 3 percent mortgage, etc.

I applied approximately 2 weeks ago and It went straight to the cancelled previous accounts route without running my credit at all.  I then called their reconsideration lines and literally went in circles with the representative that answered the phone.  I politely explained my situation and totally owned the fact that 25K that was included in the Chapter 7. All she kept reverting back to the system says that the account was cancelled by them.  Yes, I know that!!!  I authorized them to run my credit and they weren't hearing it.  They told me to then call my Bankruptcy Attorney.  I asked , what purpose would that serve?  The matter is closed and off my credit reports.  They just repeated to call my attorney.   It seems that the human element of personally reviewing someone's financial situation is completely removed from the reconsideration process and they are going by nothing more than a notation in their system.  I even asked them if they would consider a payback on the 25K and they point blank said that they do not do that.

I guess I will periodically re-apply every 6 months or so and see how it plays out.  Any pointers or positive experiences with getting back in the good graces with Amex woud be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome @Flip_Flip_MoneyGrip

Some have gotten back in at the 10 +/- year mark. Not many. Though the amount that was burned was a lot lower than what you posted. Then you have some 15 yrs plus and still cant get back in no matter what was burned. Its really as we say a YMMV situation. Nothing set in stone when it comes to unlocking the door again. But as you said. Keep trying is all you can do.
