My experience tonight was the same as skybuilder. I received the preapproval popup message after adding $60 boots and the membership to my cart.
I accepted the card and signed up to manage my account. SL was $2000.

I had fiddled with the SCT a few days ago on Overstock, I got the popup but declined it ( I rationed out that I wouldn't use it.)
However tonight I tried for the Sportsman Visa... I got the popup, and to much debate ( about 30 minutes.) I decided that I would try it.
It's a card that I would definitely use!
It asked for the last 4 of my SSN#, and I was approved.
I created an account, and my SL was 1,500! Which is now my highest CL 
.
To my surprise..... This is a card I can use outside of the online store, which for some reason I overlooked.
I thought it was just a store card 
I haven't gotten an alert yet from CK for a HP, I will update this post in a few days if that changes.
My main reason(s) for the go ahead on this card is
1. I opened a Discover card near the beginning of this month, so I already took a 'age of credit history hit, so this way it won't lower it more.
2. I would use this card, and my parents and SO can benefit from it to.
*edit* 3. This is also my only VISA card, now that BoA doesn't issue VISA debit cards.
Only downside....
I need to keep myself away from any and all credit sites LOL!
But now I have 4 cards under my belt, and lil over 3k in credit ^_^.
I think I am all set for the next 6 months to get my first car.

I put $460ish into the shopping cart, and added the membership.
I put in all my information and went to the payment screen, immediately as soon as I hit submit for the payment screen I got the popup on the next page.
It said " Congratulations! You are Pre-approved*!"

Congratulations and welcome to a life of good credit habits.
I've had my Sportsman's Guide acct for over 2wks and no HP's. The Comenity/SCT really does use SP's for their accts.
