I went to LL Bean and put a few things in my cart , signed up for an acct, and got a pop up for a pre approved visa. I applied , was a hp, and approved for $2,500. This is Barclays, who i have a Rewards card with as well. That might be why i got the pop up.

Really could use a airlines card, but dont think im there yet with my credit.

Received the J.Crew pop up/preapproved and accepted with a $500 CL. Requested CLI before card arrived and was bumped up to $700. After month two, received another $200, now at $900.

Received the Sportsman Guide pop up/preapproved after adding a membership to my cart. Accepted and received a $2,000 CL. Will wait until 6-9 months to request CLI.

Received the Good Sam pop up/preapproved however when I accepted, it took me back to the home screen and didn't process. Contacted Comenity and they said they had no record. In lieu of the preapproval, I hard app'd and got approved for $1,000. Like the SGV, I'll wait to request a CLI.

During the same period, I hard app'd for Pottery Barn and received $1,500. Immediately bumped to $3,000 and now at $4,500.

Have tried for Total Rewards, Vitacost, Virgin America and Orbitz but nothing yet. At this point, due to all the Comenity troubles with closing accounts, I'm not sure I want to try for anything else. I'm interested in a West Elm card but haven't applied yet. Planning to garden for 6 months and go from there.

All my SCT's were on Explorer and additionally, I clear all histories before trying.

Question about l.l.bean sct ...... I just went onto their website, spent 30 min shopping, dropped 1 $200 item in basket and opened cust account. went to checkout but i get a generic looking popup aasking me to apply for ll bean visa. The button specifically says "Apply Now"  Im thinking this is NOT the sct popup;.  Anyone know for sure?  As a side note ive never done the sct before. I tried doing it with Overstock but ended up doing a reg appl instead. Am still waiting for that 7-10 letter to arrive.

My popup at LL Bean told me i was pre approved for a $2,500 Visa... it was a Barclay's Card so i took it, as i have been very happy w/ them to date. And after the pop up... i did NOT Purchase anything

I thought so.  Mine was way too generic. Didnt even have the word preapproved in it.  Thanks =)

Generally if its a Visa/MC, it's not a SP anymore. The only SP I've seen were strictly store cards, IE cards that can only be used in that store or family of stores.

Yes it was a HP.. definitely. But i believe i got the pop up because it is a Barclay's LL Bean Visa and i am already a Barclay's Customer. Only thing is they were stingy on the SL. I called right away and was told that, $2,500 was the best.... I asked for $15,000... but i have only had the Barclay's Rewards MC for a few weeks less than 6mo.

Okay I'm new to SCT but I've read about it here over the last (almost) year. I see a lot of people in this thread indicating that they're opening certain accounts via SCT with only a SP. Overstock for example.

I read most of the pages of comments here, so just clarifying. Do I already have to have a relationship with the issuing bank to open a new TL via SCT without taking a HP hit?
