Okay I'm new to SCT but I've read about it here over the last (almost) year. I see a lot of people in this thread indicating that they're opening certain accounts via SCT with only a SP. Overstock for example.

I read most of the pages of comments here, so just clarifying. Do I already have to have a relationship with the issuing bank to open a new TL via SCT without taking a HP hit? NO!

I value the gold spade in my sig.

I had no ties to anything Comenity when I got my OverStock and Sportsman's Guide Visa. With some (SP for example) you need to fill out the Club membership and put it in the cart before the SCT works but I didn't have to do that with OS. I got a starting CL of $550 with OS and after the first statement cut I hit the LUV button and got another $200. SG opened my acct with $2K.

Comenity is not like Sync in that they don't have a Credit Solutions type processing system it is pure "Request credit limit increase" LUV button stuff,

Whats the lower range of credit scores that people have that are getting these pop ups?  I will be sititng around 620 at the end of this month and wondering if its even worth it if I'll never get a popup.

I got the popup for overstock but it wanted my full SSN so I did not put in any information and just backed out.  Will try again a couple weeks and see what happens.

I was in the mid 500's on EQ and EX. TU was 601 when I was approved for VS $150, Overstock $700, and HSN $1750.

Pop up wouldn't work for me on Overstock and HSN until I changed from mobile site to the desktop version.

If it helps, I did the SCT 2 weeks ago for overstock. I got $4000 and immediately requested an increase and received $4300. I've never even heard of Comenity Bank before. I won't be doing any more SCT though, I just wanted to pad my utility a little and with the single other card I have (cap one plat $2250 SL) this really helps. I'll charge 1 small item a year and call it a day.

Even though Overstock asks for your full ss#, it is still a soft pull. It asks for income too, to determine the starting limit.

I just got Pottery Barn pop-up this week (I guess this is new to the SCT world? I don't recall anyone having success with PB until recently). It took every ounce of self-restraint NOT to accept!  It's one of my fave stores. However, after my recent approvals for RH, West Elm, and Wayfair, I canNOT justify it.  Sigh...maybe next year LOL

What?! I'm so jealous. I tried to get it to pop up on mine as I was checking out. Didn't do it. Maybe that's a good thing. lol

It probably is! LOL!  Smiley Wink I wish there were more pop-ups that would actually give your limit prior to accepting.  That might be more temptation than I could handle, however, if I got a SL as decent as my RH card!

Pop up for Express ($250), J.Crew ($250) and Overstock ($250).  Will just hold on to these for now and wait until Credit score goes up more before trying for CLI.

Do you have to use the cards to get CLI?  Or is it something that can sit until your file looks better and a better score will get you a better CL?  I can always purchase small items and pay them off immediately if needed.  Can always use socks Smiley Very Happy

Re: Shopping cart trick work for you?? Please add to list!

Of the ones you listed I only have Overstock and I tried small purchases w/them and got no love. It wasn't until I finally made a (somewhat) large purchase of a cellphone that they bumped up my limit. Funny - I had been making small purchases for several months and PIF after cycle closed and nada but I bought the phone and the very next billing cycle they tripled my limit. My other SCT cards (VS and LOFT) have given me CLI consistently since I passed the "mandatory" 4 months (VS). Now I ask for one every other billing cycle and almost always get it.

Generally speaking I would say make some small purchases, wait for billing cycle to close, PIF and then give it a try. As far as Overstock goes, they were oddly tightfisted with me. I have seen a lot of ppl here who have not only started out with great CLs but they are able to get CLIs regularly from them w/out a lot of hassle. Maybe they just don't like me! Smiley Wink

Just FYI to anyone who may be interested - I recently got pop-ups for West Elm and Pottery Barn (passed on both, I was just curious to see if they would work) but no indication of what my starting limit would be. I think that I tried to get these two to work over a year ago and nada. Not sure if they are relatively new to the SCT group but they are definitely available now.

HTH!
