Re: Short History, Clean Thin File…Approval Odds for Amex BCE or BCP?

I would wait 4 months. A little over a year ago I was in the same boat as you. All I had was my freshly unsecured BoA card at 1 year. I apped BCP first thing, approved instantly for 1.5k. I think you can ask for 3x CLI immediatly now, which I would try if I were you. Try SP CLIs on your current cards too. If I could do it again I would have gardened till my amex hit 20k, then try to get in with others like chase and citi and discover.

I applied for the AMEX everyday with only 7 months credit history and was approved instantly for 1K. I've read Amex likes thin files.but clean

Congrats on your Discover approval! Smiley Very Happy

Since your Platinum is over 2 months old, go into chat and ask that it be upgraded to Rewards status.  They'll change it to a QS (MC) w/no AF, and you can start earning 1.5%.  You'll be mailed a new card, but can use the old Platinum for rewards until you get it.

Thanks!

I plan to do that early in the new year. Will the change affect my credit steps?

No you'll still have credit steps.

Approved for amex TE right on my 18th birthday, SL of $5.5k. Only history I had was AU history.

I think you'll get in no problem.

Updating this thread that I did a chat and got my Platinum changed to a QS today Smiley Very Happy.

Also Barny76 was correct, I did some prequal checks because I was bored and now Amex (among others) has some for me (PRG, EDP, Platinum), but I'm not going to app for anything for awhile but it's good to know.

Back to gardening and staying perfect with payments.

It's never an apples to apples comparison, but your scores a 20 points higher than mine and we are very close in AAoA.  I was approved for PRG and BCP last week.  The BCP was 1k SL though.  My income is pretty high though which might offset the difference.  I'm over 150k BTW.  I would go for it if I were you, but here's another data point for you.  My PRG arrived Monday, and I'm waiting on my BCP.  Then it's grocery shopping time!  I'm hoping for at least a 2X CLI on the BCP when I get it though.

Thanks for info!

I don't think I'm brave enough to app now (and I'm committed to gardening). I'm running all my grocery spend through my Discover for now. 2% is better than nothing, lol
