I hope you didnt get a triple HP, but thanks for letting us know what happened, my one and only Cap1 card will be that, from my experience they are not worth 3 HPs for another crappy card in my op. Others had had good luck with them, I wont bother.
Update: I did NOT get triple pulled. Infact, I didn't get pulled at all.
Just received my denial letter, most BS I've read in a while. I used a referral link from CardMatch for the $500 SUB.
Guess my option is to reapply using (1) a different referal link for $500, (2) apply regularly for $300 or (3) just not do anything.
Unfortunately, my mother has taken on short-term debt, and I'm an AU, so my score dropped 44 pts due to her using 66%+ of her limit...so I won't be probably apping for this card again for months... :/

Thanks for sharing. I think this is the first time I've seen this as a denial reason. Agree with others to keep checking the prequal page with Cap1.
Looks like they are on to people using the $500 affiliate links and are outright denying those but at least they’re not pulling for those applications.

I suppose it depends on the source of the referral? I wouldn't think all $500 referral links would be subject to the same scrutiny. For instance, this recent approval:

I imagine Cap will be rushing to shut them down as soon as possible now that they have cut their offer to $300.
I just did the Capital One prequalify and the result brought up the $500/$3000 offer but when I clicked thru to apply it reduced it to $300/$3000 -- maybe it's a glitch or something. Odd to see that.

I saw an article on DoC about the SUB changing (and affiliate links still being alive), so I used TPG's referral link since I read them pretty regularly. I checked it again today, and it's still showing $500 there, so maybe YMMV?
Edit: One other thing - I did click the affiliate link and complete the app in "Incognito Mode"
