I'm fairly new to building credit. I have two CCs. My first was Victoria Secret with a $350 CL (never used) & I also have a NFCU cashRewards Signature w/ a $10k CL. I applied for both earlier this year. 1% utilzation. As of today, my scores are EX: 731, EQ: 727, TU: 702. I have 3 inquires on TU from earlier this year. Two are from NFCU and one from a cell phone provider. I plan on applying for a NavCheck but only after I apply for another CC. I'm just unsure of which CC I should go for. I'm thinking Discover, but any advice would be helpful. ![]()
Wow talk about a night and day difference between your current cards. Well you certainly need another card to round out your profile. With your scores you shouldn't have a problem qualifying for anything you might want, as long as you have no baddies. If Discover is something you are interested in you shouldn't have any issues, they have a tendency to prefer thin files, and you are a good candidate in that sense. Is there any particular rewards structure your looking for? You've got the cash taken care of with navy, so is there anything like travel rewards or just a general card?
Yeah, my two cards are definitely night & day. I rarely shop at Victoria Secret, but they offered me my first CC, so I took it and still haven't used it.
I don't travel much. Maybe a week long trip once a year and a weekend trip a few times a year. I enjoy the 1.5% cash back rewards from my current card though. So maybe another card similar to that. I'm new to building credit so I'm not 100% informed about the different types of cards & the rewards they offer.
Well If you are happy with your current navy rewards, there is no sense duplicating that. A card like Discover or Chase freedom have different quarterly cashback categories that may interest you.Take a look at Chase and Discover sites for more info. You can also check out Amex, they have lots of different cards. Don't forget Citi and Bank of America. There's way too many cards to list, you'll find lots of info from each lenders site that may be very beneficial for you. Once you've narrowed your choices come back and ask about them and you'll get lots of input.
Alright, thanks! I'll definitely look into those tonight & come back to share once I have a few cards in mind!
You deffinitely have options with your scores. Depending on your income and employment status, I'd say first decide what you want, i.e. rewards, cash back. Try the pre qual for chase and capital one also, even Citi. Those three seem to be the most reliable.
I decided to go with Discover!
I'm about to apply right now.
*crosses fingers*
I'll updated ASAP.
Quick question, for employment status it says "If you are a college student and have a job, select "College Student".
I work full time and I'm a college student. Does selecting college student instead of empoyed full time have any disadvantages as far as my application being approved?
