Should I go for the AMEX??????

I have only been a member of this forum for a short amount of time but been browsing through the threads for a little while longer.  I have come to determine there are some very knowledgeable people here.  That being said I am open to suggestions on whether or not I should go for the amazon AMEX or not.  If not does anybody have any better suggestions.  My current credit file from myFico is:

EQ-655 TU-686 EX-666 11/12/14

Across all CRBs AAoA 4yrs and oldest 16 yrs 5mo

EQ & EX report 2 60 baddies one falls off in 5/15 other 8/15

All CRBs report 2 COs that are being disputed as of 11/5/2014 because they were paid directly to the OC

NFCU cashRewards-$20k $0 bal

BofA MC-$5k  BT of $2,645 (0% till May 2016 yes May 2016)

Cap1 Platinum-$4,250 $0 bal

Cap1 QS-$1,250 $446 bal

USAA MC-$1500 $481 bal (4% till Aug 2015)

CreditOne-$1075 $0 bal

NFCU LOC $2,623

NFCU Sig Loan $2,843

USAA Mortgage-103,254 opened June 2013

Trying to decide if I should wait till August next year to try and get it after ever thing falls off.  I am going to try and call and get an early exclusion for the two 60 days.  I am wanting to try and go for a new car as a birthday gift to myself next August and want to get the best interest rate possible.  So ultimately my goal is to get my Fico score as high as possible.  Not sure how it would look applying in August for a car loan then a AMEX.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Well after reading profile of yours. Your AAA of Ais great. Experian is a little low. Which amex will use. But. It's good enough to get in the door. I say go for a charge first. UW is the same. So prg will be great with your current score. Or the green. If you feel lucky. For credit card. Try the delta.  Amex is not as hard at times.  So now may be your chance.  I saw your scores.  Good luck. Also. Get rid of that credit one. Too risky. They are predators.

Yeah my experian is a little low.  That report was generated with me having probably an additional $5K of debt and I am sure it was with a pretty high UTL maybe around 38% I have since gotten it down to 11% if my math is correct.

I considered the Delta but I doubt if I would every use the miles I always fly US Airways.  I would really like to get the ED since they are offering a year of amazon prime.  Plus I think I have made probably 10 orders on amazon in the last 3 months while I have been deployed.  Plus I got another 5 or 6 months left here and will be doing most of my holiday shopping on amazon.

You deffinetly are on borderline @ 666 experian or whatever it was...  Have your payments posted and utilization gone down yet on experian?  If so that will help the score..  Probably good for the PRG or delta, but still borderline at mid 660's...  If you were at 670 or 680 i would say you have a very good change at an approval.  If at 670 or 680 probably even ED..  Always a gamble though!

I only mentioned delta as it's a revolver. ED is a tough nut to crack with those scores.  The key. Get in door first. A year from now. Get whatever amex you like. And they will backdate if you are not sure what that means. I will tell you.  But. Advice. Just get I the family first. With current scores.   You are border line. But. Just giving you best chance for success. Green.   Prg.   Both charges.  Or delta. But. You can try ed. Just not sure of that one

Yeah those numbers are from before my last rounds of payments went out.  I checked through USAA credit monitoring and experian is still showing incorrect balances.  I will probably wait until the first of Dec once I see my report update and see how I am looking then on my scores.

I really appreciate the advice and I see what you mean by getting my foot in the door. Plus this would be a great chance to get in on that 2014 MSD for them even if I get lucky and get approved for the the ED in the next 6 months or so I can still get a good backdate.  I will probably wait until my last round of payments post then hopefully I can squeak a few more points out of my score so that I have a better chance of qualifying.

Re: Should I go for the AMEX??????

I slightly remember reading somewhere that AMEX waves AF as part of the SCRA does anyone know if this is true or not.  I asked through their online chat but the CSR told me I had to apply before he could tell me how it would affect my account or whether or not i even qualified for it.

Re: Should I go for the AMEX??????

Exactly. So if you got other card after baddies fell off you can backdate to make new card older. Really if you got now. And saw got ed in jan 2016.  It will be 2 years old when you get.  That's why I recommend prg to get got in door. Even some scores 650  will get approved. Then you got your msd.  Golden in a year. Good luck. Sure you are ready to come back to the world wherever you are deployed   Old army vet here. Smiley Happy

AF is waived first year anyway. But I believe if you are deployed. So other benefits amex gives
