Should I take the plunge? Southwest Credit Card

Hi Fico Family,

Still rebuilding my credit and have been semi in the garden since I started my rebuild in April this year. I received the below email and am wondering if this is a targeted email based on my credit profile or just marketing. My scores have improved started in the very low 500's and am now in the upper 600's had approximately 8 collections and now have 2, one that will fall off this month. Says the offer is good until 8/15.

JMO but I think that offer will come back around after that other baddies falls off next month. I see that mileage available on the website.

Starting Score: EQ497/TU496/EX 499
Currently: EQ 620 TU 654 EX 627
in the garden since 6/16/2021

Unfortunately, it is just marketing.  Are you currently a Chase banking customer?

Thanks I got excited when the email said I was invited to apply, but I don't want to take a hard hit if it's not a targeted email. Not worth it. I'll stay in the garden for now. Thanks so much!

Something you might want to consider...

Create a free Chase Credit Journey Credit Monitoring account.  This will provide a Vantage 3.0 Experian score that is updated weekly.  It also provides (and this is the important part) a list of Chase offers that are available for you.  When you see a product you are interested in acquiring that has either a black or green banner above the product that says "You're already approved" you can be reasonably certain it is NOT a mass marketing offer.

While it is not a guarantee that the product will be issued, it is probably as close as you'll ever find. ☺

Something else that hasn't been mentioned yet, but that is also a pretty weak signup bonus for that card. Chase is also currently running a 65,000 points on $2,000 MSR promotion that is a much better deal. Considering that the Southwest cards are terrible for everyday spending, you want to make sure you're getting a juicy signup bonus.

I was and still are getting these offers from the time my credit was in the 400s when I began my rebuild. It is marketing. I took the dive and applied when I was in the low 600s because I figured they kept bugging and really wanted me to app and I was flat out denied without a second thought and got tapped with a double HP. It is Chase and they aren't the biggest fans of dirty profiles. I would definitely say if you have collections, no, it isn't worth the shot. My scores are now in the low 700s and still can't get approved for much of anything with collections reporting.

Banks seem more forgiving of charge offs than collections. For example: my SO seems to get approved for everything he has applied for (not wild apps, but carefullt researched ones), even with mid-high 600s and an unpaid CO, but zero collections.

Best bet is to try and get the last collection pay for delete or wait for it to age off.
