So, I went on an app spree.....why did I do that? LOL!!!

I said yesterday that I wanted to spend some time in the garden, but I needed some cards to plant, first.  I went on an app spree.

I read somewhere about the shopping cart trick - I tried it, I think it worked.  $250 card for Avenue, $250 card for Woman Within

I'm a member at NFCU - denied for the credit card and the cloc.    I can do the secure card or a secure loan.  I might try the secure loan for a bit.  I can do the loan for $250, deposit $250 in my savings account, then "borrow" that money and pay it back to my self.

Fast forward to today - took a chance on Nordstroms - approved for $300.

Then I moved over to USAA for a credit card  - hot dam I was approved for $1,000 unsecured.  WHAT?????  That gave me a big head that was quickly deflated.

I couldn't stop myself!!!!  I tried a few more places and was promptly turned down - which is probably good.

I already had a capital one platinum with $400 cl.

I think I've got more than enough for a small garden - let's see what my "credit" thumb can do.  LOL!  Here we go!!!

Current Score: EX 539, TU 571, EXP 539
Goal Score: 750

The USAA approval is definitely a positive.  A quick Googling and I found an example of one individual who got a $6,000 CLI on their USAA card with a 650 score.  So does sound like the USAA can grow after 6 months with a HP CLI request.  Your Capital One and the new store cards with the SP luv button bumps now and then can grow too.  Make sure you use the cards after any CLIs so they report.

If you have the spare funds I would do the secure loan.  NFCU is definitely going to be credit for your credit in the long run with their huge limits and flexibility to work with less than perfect credit profiles... so I would start working with them early.

Keep an eye on USAA and NFCU's "offers" for pre-approvals =)

Good luck in the garden.

OP, congrats on the cards you did get!

Now, dig out a bit more space to make it a bigger garden. Then, get someone to put up about a 10ft sealed electric fence around it lol. And make sure you are in it!!!!!!!!!

Lol, in all seriousness, you had a good run, and now you want to grow these cards and your overall profile. This will open up many doors down the road if you truly garden.

Welcome to the boards!!

I have not tried this trick personally, but the shopping cart trick is a method used to gain credit without actually having your credit pulled (HP), which costs you an inquiry for 2 years, and a loss of points wit each inquiry for a year.

Researching this, I found this info:

The shopping cart trick is done primarily with stores that use certain lenders as their credit card issuer. Visit the website of one of these stores. Place one or two items in your cart and go to check. Move on with the check out process, either right after you enter your shipping address or right before you are to select a payment method and pop up will appear with urging you to apply for their store card. You’ll know it’s the Shopping Cart Trick because it will only ask you for the last four digits of your social.

I would think ymmv on how it works on different sites
