Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
OP with a 671 its borderline whether instore would help you out better. But I know from experience if you were 685+ and when into a gap and applied for the card, you would get the visa in store more than likey if you applied online (from my experience with synch).
I think a lot of us know that applying in store is a lot better with synch. granted it depends on our credit profile, a lot of us used to go by the 720+ rule for online synch apps to get the mc/visa.
I think it makes absolutely no difference as far as the decision. Underwriting is underwriting and your application goes through the same channel regardless of how or by whom it is submitted.
Like others note, the one advantage could be being able to nip verification problems in the bud. Other than that, don't think it matters. Even with major cards, some people feel going into a branch and talking to a banker makes a difference, but I'm not sure how much it truly does, unless the banker is really going to fight for you.
I have burned more than a few inquiries to test this and my findings with Synch are that you DO have a better shot in store at a VISA or MC than you do online IF you are under 700 like ddemari mentioned. I have literally applied for a card online only to be approved for the store version... cancelled it, then turned around a few days later, gone to the mall, applied and after verification received the MC or Visa. I did this with AE, Walmart, TJ Maxx.
@Dave451985: Funny thing is I was JUST at Old Navy a few minutes ago. I went there with the intention of app-ing (and I needed a couple of shirts) but chickened out at the register. However I appreciate your burning the INQ's to make the experiment into this b/c now if I do decide to app for a Synch store card, I'll def. do it in store with the hopes of getting the Visa or M/C. BTW: were most of the pulls you incurred done on TU or EX?
