Last night I decided to apply for the Synchrony Premier Card and got the 10 day letter response. Decided to call in today and see if they needed any additional info or verification and was informed that I had been denied and that I would get the reasons in the letter being sent.
Quite surprised considering this at least in my opinion isn't a very difficult card to get. Now that I think about it none of Synchrony's cards are.
DPs
-Pulled Experian and at the time I had a 795 FICO8
- 2 new accounts 4 months ago
- No Lates/Derogs/ Collections
- Sync Exposure is about 32k total
- 1 inquiry on Experian
- Income 6 figures
- Utilization 1%
- DTI 9%

The Premier is Synchrony's only Core card. I am not saying anything other than the Premier is not the same beast as all the co-brands.
The denial reasons will be interesting to hear, if you share when you get them.
@CreditPoor I agree it would be interesting to know the reason(s) for the denial. There are several banks and credit unions that offer 2% cash back credit cards. I have 2 new accounts in the last 6 months. My plan is to wait a while a year or so before I apply for another credit card. I have all the credit cards I need and then some.
I was denied a Synchrony card at a furniture store. Synchrony uses Vantage scores rather than FICO, which can be a big difference.

jmonye21 is correct, Synchrony does use vantage scores so you might want to check Credit Karma to see what your scores look like there. I would definitely try to call for reconsideration on this denial and turn it around. If you post your denial reasons on here, we may be able to help you come up with some good ideas for reconsideration points, etc. That Synchrony can be a fickle bird! Don't ever trust them.
I received this card a few years ago a
with a 10 k limit. Denied every time for a CLI.
Have closed other cards to reduce aggregate limits as this card would get beat to death if they gave me a huge limit.
Have several other 2% cards but all are in the 10-20k range.
My Bread Amex is slowly climbing however.
Sorry for the delayed response. Never actually received a denial letter of any kind. Called a couple times but they couldn't give me any additional info other thsn expect a letter.
I am aware of them using Vantage 4.0 and my score for that is a 785 as I'd 09/30/2024
I'm looking to close my Synchrony Chevron Visa, and was thinking about the Premier to replace the CL. Now I'm not so sure.
@CreditPoor @Jeffster1 If either you decide to apply for 2% cash back consider a credit union.
Here are three credit unions with easy membership requirements
Dover Credit Union
Fortera Credit Union
State Department FCU - I have their 2% cash back card.
These are three examples their are many more Dover and Fortera have a prequalify site. If you are approved for the card you need to become a member to get the card.
About 5 years ago I applied for CareCredit which was approved and within a few hours received an email saying something like 'click here to accept your preapproved offer for the Synchrony Premier Mastercard', which I clicked and received the card with no hard or soft credit pull. SL was about $7500. Since then the card has had 3 auto CLI's to 12K even though I rarely use it. Care card was auto changed to a Mastercard within about 18 months but remains at 16,500 CL it started with; PayPal credit & Amazon store card get auto CLI's. Dread when limits increase for fear of exceeding an internal limit across Synch that might cause card shutdowns. Verizon acct keeps showing preapproval for Synch Visa but no way I'm touching that. Synch even increased my limits shortly after PNC & Amex decreased my limits due to sustained high aggregate UT that dived my scores earlier last year. Wondering if maybe Sychrony likes people that don't have top tier scores for better cards, and sometimes carry APR generating balances?
