Synchrony Walmart CLI - HP or soft, have things changed?

It's been 3 months since my Walmart card received a CLI so I logged in this morning to see if I could get some more luv. I received this message after pushing the Luv Button -

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we cannot process a credit limit increase online for this account.

So I signed into chat to request an increase. The rep started by telling me this -

We can submit a request for an increase through chat. Please be advised that credit limit increase request is subject to a credit check.

I then asked - This would be a soft pull correct?

His answer - I cannot guarantee that.

So I asked - Has anything changed when it comes to credit line increases? I know they were soft in the past.

He did some research then wrote -  Thank you for holding. Your request for a credit line increase may result in an inquiry on your credit bureau; however, some requests are determined using only internal factors on your account and may not result in an inquiry on your credit bureau. But if it results to an inquiry, it does not say specifically if it will be a hard or soft inquiry. I apologize.  I would suggest that you contact the credit bureau to know if credit line increase is still considered as soft inquiry.

I don't know if this is just how the rep was wording things but I didn't want to change it being a HP if something has changed over there.

Thoughts?

As far as I know the only Synchrony card that requires a HP for a CLI is Care Credit.

I didn't think it would be a HP but didn't want to tell them to do it then find that something has changed over there.

Exactly, they say a lot to me this is contingent upon a review of credit, its just their soft pull. ive never seen a hard pull done on chats. CareCredit I dont have, but they hard pull so that is the exception.

I'm doing another chat with them now. Pretty much the same - Thank you so much for your inquiry. I would be able to gladly assist you with the credit line increase. Just to inform you that it will be subject to credit check.

Maybe I didn't notice them say that before or I'm reading into it more now.

Re: Synchrony Walmart CLI - HP or soft, have things changed?

I do have a hardpull from samsclub on a cli. I was approved in July, asked for increases in October, and got HP. I tried luv button, chat and credit solutions all the same week so I don't know which one made it happen. I went 1k to 5k so it wasn't for not, but if the report they see is way old, months and months behind… they can do it

Re: Synchrony Walmart CLI - HP or soft, have things changed?

I just did a chat session on my WM card within the past hour. I spoke with Annie. No mention of credit check, HP etc. They've always been SP for me.
