I am on my final leg of applications for the cards I am interested in and will use. I need a Target card. I applied back in February and got the "letter" saying I did not have any credit card accounts. I actually had two that had not reported at the time. Since that time I have added several cards (8) and five are reporting USAA Visa (2); DCU Visa; PenFed Promise: Captial Bank Visa and Nordstrom. Two are not reporting (Overstock and Victorias Secret). Capital Bank Visa is on the way out the door since I have better cards now with limits that I am comfortable with and I don't need the capital bank headaches that go along with it.
I have 4 inquries on EXP; 6 on EQ (3 are credit union share account pulls) and 1 on TU. One of the EQ inquiries is Target back in February. All of my CC's are new with the exception of two that are closed from 1970.
My scores are EXP 782; TU 824 and EQ 689. I have 1 old collection on EQ that I am disputing and the company states they show no balance owed them so they will be contacting EQ about removal.
When I applied to Target before my EQ score was 756 (they said it was 630). The scores lenders see and what I see are always vastly different at least for me. This was way different, so I spoke to them about it and was told that no recent/open CC accounts was the deciding factor for them not the score. I have a current and several paid auto loans. I have above average income however Target said that was not a factor with them at the time.
Now I have the CC's and have made two rounds of payments on a couple, others have 0 balances or are not reporting yet.
My question is do you think Target would approve a card at this time or do you think the inquiries and new CC's would become their new issue?
I recently got approved for a Nordstrom card with a generous limit and I think Target is the same bank.
My thinking is if they can get by those issues and see that their bank has approved another account I might be able to get an approval. The other option is to wait longer before re-applying. I am just trying to finish up and with getting the cards I need, manage them well and stop applying for any others for a very long time. I have went without the use of CC's for the past 9 years but by doing so it was impacting my scores greatly and preventing me from acquiring cards that I wanted and in some cases needed to have.
Your thoughts are appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
Just my opinion, but I would wait a few months before apping again. Put some good history on the cards you have. Target is famous for giving starting CL's at $200-500 (no matter how good the scores are,) and they are not good about CLIs either. So, except for the 5%, the card is kinda useless unless you PIF before the statement. You get the 5% with the debit card too. They usually pull TU.
I apped a couple times for Target and was declined each time...same reason, I had no credit. I finally just got their debit card, which gives you the same benefits as the credit card, just with no credit. I finally got some other credit cards and used them for a few months. My credit score was in the low 600's last year and I had over 20 inquiries. While I was in Target I decided to bite the bullet and apply in the checkout. The clerk told me that it's easier to get a card in store than online, then she asked me a few questions typed it into her register and I was approved for $250. I have only had my account for 8 months and I have already gotten 2 auto CLI's. I love Target and this card is probably the one I use the most!
You've had your Target card for 8 months and already gotten 2 auto CLIs ??

Yes, my 8th statement just cut this past week. I got an auto CLI at month5 and another one at 7 months. Yes, it's TD Bank who issues the Red card.
TD bank must hate me
This is my only TD Bank account of any type.
Grats your good luck !

With those scores and cards you already have, why do you want a card that will bring AAoA down, your avarage credit limit down, and will probably be stuck at a $300 ro $500 limit for the next couple years? For rebuilders, store cards may be an easy way of getting a trade line in their credit reports, but in your case i would think twice before i app for a Target card.
