Do it.
Says the user with scores in the 700s.
Haha yet my last app was last week. Its possible to be in the 700s without gardening all the time. It's about balance. Using your cards wisely, and having them work for you. I have a moderate portfolio in terms of these forums, yet I would say across the board I get at least 3% back on every dollar that I spend, It's important to have a diverse set of cards that allows you to do this. I think of all the people who don't have credit cards or think cash is king. But I bet they would be happy with a 3% bonus every year for doing nothing but paying attention to how you spend.
Just my 2 cents.
That's good to know, too. Right now my utils are nice and low at 1%, which helped a credit score boost at the beginning of April. Once I get Portfolio Recovery to take my money instead of launching a DV investigation every time I contact them, I'll be set up for a good file/score/history. I have the mortgage, car loan and school loan; and I'm starting to get the right cards in terms of unsecured credit. I'm sure the 10K Venture and the Delta Amex will help after the initial score dip.
@Anonymous wrote:Yes-Its-Me, credit file is on the light side. Secured card was one of the first cards I got in years. I was terrified of something happening and not being covered in the event I couldn't pay my bill. I've only held onto it because I've already paid the AF for the year. I was planning on letting it go once the Venture and Amex reports. One state tax lien that was paid in 2012. One open collection from Portfolio because they apparently refuse to take my damn money. Also from 2012. Everything else is aok. AAoA is around 1.5 with longest line being 6 years old.
And I'm girl, so between the CSP and the hot chick, probably going to choose the hot chick. To be honest, I am not even all about the CSP. I'm more about the credit line so I can shift it to Freedom and use the blasted thing to get rewards.
I'm positive the credit file I have isn't enough to support a darn thing in the Chase sphere. Common sense says I need to wait. I happen to have a bad habit of not listening to common sense, hence the help.
Alright.. Since you are a woman, I will put a hunky hunk of a man then Your score is border line for the CSP approval.. I am going to jump ship and say have you checked the Chase pre-equal site? If so, are you pre-approved for the CSP?

Last time I checked, no. It said I had recently taken advantage of an offer and to check back again later.
Is your Venture reporting? If not, wait till it reports for them to see it on there. Since the CSP starts at 5k minimum, they will want to see you can handle a bigger line. Once it reports, I'd say apply.
Chase goes by their internal scores and not necessarily the fico score...

No, not reporting yet. Just got it today. I was toying with asking for a CLI on activation, since my scores popped up nearly 30 points.
(Yes, I realize I may have a problem. What's funny is, I don't want to use the credit lines. I just want to have them.)
This - I don't want to use the credit lines. I just want to have them. is actually good in case you have an emergency. So not a bad thing... Lets wait for the Venture and Amex to report and then hopefully get portfolio recovery to remove whatever they have been working on...
Once all those are done, you should apply for the CSP. The good thing is, you are able to recon if you don't get approved instantly and this is why we are here... We will put our heads together and come up with a plan and strategy to convince an analyst as to why the CSP should be yours So patience is key.. Hang in there..

Well, I'm glad my brand of crazy translates into something!
I despair of ever getting rid of Portfolio. They are notorious for sticking around, and it's at least 2 more years of plaguing my credit report until the SOL expires.
Cap One has been good to me, and with any luck, I can apply for the 3XCLI at Amex in 30 to 60 days and get it. I should be happy enough with that. And if Chase continues to thumb its nose at me, well, I guess I'll have to deal.
I still think once the huge venture reports, you should be fine with chase as you bank with them...
It's a very bad idea! I've been wanting that same card myself! Still holding strong. Come back inside. Getting windy up here!

I'm assuming if you wait 5 months that a good chunk of those HP's fall off. Also, that you'll get your Amex increases and your AAOA will look much improved. I am suggesting to tie yourself to the fence and look at some flowers for 5-7 months (the longer the better) and let as many HP's fall off as possible. Your scores once the Amex ages to 6 months will probably shoot up. No need to app to cards back-to-back, especially if you're not going to be using most of them. In fact, never app to things back-to-back if they're from various lenders that you aren't trying to get multiple things from one HP. There's no need with your scores to be further hurting your scores by apping so frequently.
Just my opinons, many may disagree.
