Re: Testing method to get 25k CL on each new credit card

@FinStar
For instance, I was approved for Chase Amazon Prime for $19K last June and Citi approved the Double Cash for $18K earlier this year. I don't believe I'm an outlier either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll respectfully disagree with your viewpoint above regarding your SLs, as you are THE definition of an outlier.  The percentage of approvals at or around the values you gave above are extremely minor relative to approvals that are far smaller.  All one has to do is a search on this forum, the credit pulls database etc. and that can be verified.  Are there others with approvals around the same amount as yours?  Sure there are, but for every one you've got 50-100 that are significantly less and essentially none that are significantly more.  To me, that's the pure definition of outlier.

Re: Testing method to get 25k CL on each new credit card

While I can see your perspective (humbled to be categorized as an outlier), I wish I could share the origination numbers that most lenders have. But as we all know, there's plenty of convoluted and vague information (inaccuracies taken into consideration) by what's reported on forums, DoC, credit pulls db, TPG, etc., to be authoritative sources. Guidance at best, but not the full, true picture.

So, the percentage of approval data for the values I provided are not that far off in the median range for all customers that both lenders originate every day.

Since you're a numbers kind of individual, you also have to take into consideration the number of CC loan originations that are representative for the size of each lender down the individual portfolio and product line. So, online sources at best would not capture every single approval, even if you took an approximation to infer a true median SL.

As an illustration, if you could ask Chase or Citi to provide you with the total number of households that have these 2 products, average SL, etc., it would likely provide more tangible evidence than what is actually reported by all collective blogs and other database sources.

Re: Testing method to get 25k CL on each new credit card

Generally my SL for new tradelines are anywhere in the 15-2xk range. Although I've recently recieved 2 of the lowest SL in several years, likely due to opening them within a month of each other and they are with new creditors, despite having a 800+ fico.
Last month: TD Cash - 14k SL
Today: DiscoverIt - 4.2k SL <--lol what?

Based on several threads, it seems Discover is at least generous with automatic CLI. Many get one on the 3rd statement. From there, people seem to ask for incremental CLI every 30-90 days (soft pulls) which is different from the usual 6 month strategy

Re: Testing method to get 25k CL on each new credit card

Not surprising for Discover OP. You have > $200K unsecured TCL. Discover isn't going to play the match game at this stage of your credit profile. CLIs are not out of the question down the road, of course.

TD Bank can be somewhat of a conservative lender if you've not previously established some sort of relationship. When I was approved for their TD Aeroplan Visa way back in the day, the SL was $25K (and that's with several tradelines in all different CL ranges). Today, the CL sits at $92K.

Re: Testing method to get 25k CL on each new credit card

I applied to 2 more credit cards on top of the TD Cash and Discover IT card yesterday, which makes it 4 applications within a month's time. 3 out of 4 went through with CapitalOne being the exception. I guess they're a bit more sensitive. Do you guys suggest retrying in 4 or 6 months? Thank you.

Which other two did you attempt besides TD Bank and Discover? I'm assuming the Capital One was not approved?

Re: Testing method to get 25k CL on each new credit card

The other 2 are USbank cash and CapOne. And correct, Capone was not approved

Re: Testing method to get 25k CL on each new credit card

You could retrying CapOne again in a few months but it's hard to tell what they denied you for until you get your letter. It might say too much inquiries or new accounts, in which case 6 months should do it. but it could just be that CapOne isn't interested. It's happened before where borrowers are just too prime for CapOne. They are one of those lenders that really prize loyalty (or neediness) and if it looks like you are just playing the field, they just won't bite.
